Would you...?
So say you take your dog on a 10 hour day hike in the woods (with no known water source). You get lost and can't find the way back.
You brought enough water and food to last you for 4 days max if you ration it.(and then you will live for 2 more days without water before your dead from dehydration). (total 6 days) your dog on the other hand will die in 2 days since your not sharing any water with him. But if you share the water and food with your dog, you will run out in 2 days, and you and the dog can survive for 2 more days before both dead. (total 4 days) However, you could kill the dog after day 3 (you can't wait for it to die first because you will die first) and drink its blood and eat its meat which will allow you to live 2 more days. (total 5 days) Assuming no one will know your missing for 2 days because your family is away for the weekend and rescue won't be called until the 3rd day when they get home and realize your missing. Would you let your dog die to buy your self 2 extra days thus increasing your chance of rescue, or would you share your ration with your dog and hope rescue comes before end of 4th day (they will have to find you in 2 days and its some pretty dense woods)? ps. Before you go screaming im a psycho or something, I just want to say its a perfectly possible scenario. Im planning a hike trip with my dog, and just thought of the possibilities. This is my dog, Boner. hes got chinky eyes just like me lol Last edited by samwoo2go; 12-05-2008 at 02:23 AM.. Reason: added pic |

I wouldnt, because I couldn't. I would look for insects or other small animals to eat. Good protein

how about you just dont go? or let people know, that if your not back or dont call them by a certant time that they should call the search and rescue. instead of eating your dog, just be more prepared.

lol no im not worrired about my trip, im just thinking what if this exact scenario were to happen, what would people do. (Its the lack of water that will kill you, not food and theres no water)
I mean packing 2 days worth of food and water should be sufficent for an 8 hour trip, but if you get lost... I thought of this, because I read a book a long time ago (can't remember the title) about this dude that got lost in the woods with his dog and survied. He said at 1 point, he contemplated eating his dog, and he looked at his dog, and he saw the same intent in his dog's eye (as in the dog looked like it wants to eat him too) but in the end they were both too weak to continue the plan and they were both rescued shortly after. |

FINE! your driving thru the mountains with your dog in the car, your car swerve down a cliff, the hill is too steep to climb out. no cell signal, no one can tell you fell off, family out of town for 2 days, the cliff is too high for anyone to hear you yell. you got some bottle waters and snack in your car to last you 4 days by yourself or 2 with the dog. what would you do? How do you prepare for that?
