tanzanite vs others?
I'm interested in the X3M40i in Tanzanite Blue (and for that matter Phytonic Blue) and was curious how it looked compared to other competitors' blues:
- Model Y Deep Blue Metallic - Q5 Navarra Blue metallic - Macan Gentian Blue Metallic Thanks! |

I saw a sq5 in navarra blue when I was still deciding what to get, and it's very close to tanzanite from what I saw. I saw it in dealership lighting and it might be slightly more blue than tanzanite. It had a nice shine when the light hit and it wowed me when I first saw it.
In the shade I'd probably prefer the Audi blue. But my tanzanite also wowed me when I saw it in the sun a couple days ago, so no complaints. Can't speak for tesla or Porsche though. |

Tanzanite is a great color. It is muted in the shade to the point you can’t see the metal flake, but in the sun it pops. Have it on my wife’s X5 and it’s surprisingly easy to keep clean. Still looks new after two years.

I'll bite kyjellyfish - beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but darkest to lightest:
Tanzanite Blue - darkest (midnight blue), can look black but sparkles in sun Navarra Blue metallic - dark but always looks blue Gentian Blue Metallic - still dark but a bit more pop (best blue ever IMO) Model Y Deep Blue Metallic - very common and really not a bad shade of blue Phytonic Blue - a bit light for me, but not terrible and it's cheaper! |

I ordered Tanzanite Blue over Cognac Vernasca leather. Love the color. Due in week 21. Other than an X3 back in 2004, this is first non Alpine white BMW I’ve purchased. I even went to dealer that had a X5 on the lot in TB and looked at it after it rained and collected pollen. I was very surprised how good it still looked, dirty.

I love Tanzanite but it was not an option when I got mine.
I have Phytonic Blue and seriously love that now ... I was unsure at the time as it looked too dull, but in reality isn't and comes alive in the sun. The best bit is that it doesn't show dirt or swirls .... and still looks great grubby. My fear with Tanzanite would be swirl marks as when I researched getting an M3 Comp in Tanzanite people said you so much as look at it with a sponge / mitt and swirls appear. Just something to be aware of ? |

Pictures tell a thousand words but I am too lazy this morning to upload pics of my Phytonic Blue M40i so I’ll describe the difference.
Phytonic, is a very nice medium shade of blue that has a good deal of silver graphite metallic in it which really makes it pop. It’s an amazing color day and night and although I initially regretted not going TZ I have grown to actually prefer Phytonic over TZ and would go Phytonic again. TZ, is an eye catching dark inky blue. Think dark blue jeans. At night it almost looks black. I love TZ at night. Very classy. In the sun it looks a tad subdued to my eye.

Had a 2019 Phytonic and went with Tanzanite on my 2022. Tanzanite is a darker and deeper blue. The metallic flake really pops in the sunlight on the Tanzanite and makes it show up as a different color.
Here are two pictures: One is of me between my old Phytonic 2019 and my new 2022 Tanzanite just after it came off the truck. The second is my Tanzanite in the sun. You really can't go wrong with either color. |
