Brake pad change while keeping same rotors

The time has come that I need to replace the pads on my DB11. The rotors still have a lot of life in them. I am planning on switching from the OEM pads to pads that:

1. last longer
2. are cheaper
3. perform "better"

I need to review the research I did last summer (with the help of some people on this forum!), but I believe I had settled on going with Pagid RSL1s.

So my two-part question is, how do you determine if the new pad compound is compatible with the existing friction layer on the disc and if it is not, would any potential issues be addressed/alleviated by performing a bedding procedure?

Whatever residue that may be on the rotor will get wiped away in short order by the new pads.

As Bill said. If you go through whatever bedding steps the new pad company recommends, you will remove the old and transfer the new material on to the rotors.

This is usually why they suggest driving gently for a period before beginning a bed in procedure; it helps mate the new pad to the worn disc, and also uses mechanical friction to essentially scrub any old pad deposits from the rotor. This gives you the 'clean' surface on which to then bed the pads in properly.

Good to know! I was planning on bedding them in right away but I'll wait a bit, maybe 50-100 miles
