How does driver lock car when exiting vehicle with vehicle on and key inside?
Sorry if this is a super basic question. I tried searching, but couldn't find the answer.
Occasionally I'll be driving and SO and kid are in the back seat. If I get out to grab a coffee, I want to keep the car/AC running, but I also want to lock the car for them (lots of auto theft in my area). Is there any way to achieve this without SO having to reach up to the front and hit the door lock when the door is closed? I tried hitting the door lock button on exit but it doesn't do anything (I'm assuming it's trying to prevent me from locking myself out). Should I be doing something else like turning the car off and then turning on remote start/cooling? Thanks! |

It is not straightforward to do. I don't think there has been any changes since this thread.

With the car running take the Key with you and lock it from the remote. The car will Honk Twice, and complain to on the idrive the Key Is missing, but it will lock. You can code out the Honk with Bimmercode.
