Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that an M2 CSL prototype at the end?

Looked more like GTS, but this vid series seems to be CSL centric. Probably!

They would be too big and defeat the purpose

DCT S85 should've totally been a thing, even without the special engine. Would've elevated it to a truly modern car.

The M5 is already a big, heavy car. Making a CSL doesn't really work for it like it does the M3/4 which are still heavy on their own

Doesn't really matter. The Csl is supposed to be a lighter more race inspired variant of the Standard version as these are. These cars would of sold like hot cakes. You mean to tell me people wouldn't have loved a dct m5?

BMW doesn't make the DCT in M cars anymore, including the new M4 CSL which has a ZF8

Yeah, but this is what, 17 years ago? The DCT was a huge step up from the SMG. Not sure if it just wasn't ready by the time the E60 came out... Getting rid of the most criticized piece of this car would have made it a gem.

Great video. But a bit depressing at the same time seeing the uniqueness of those cars as the engineers tried to push the limits compared to todays M vehicles.

And frustrating that they never made it to production, I would have bought any and all of them. The "real" M4 csl I have 0 interest in however.

Single clutch gearbox in which the clutch is actuated by an electric motor (instead of the driver's left foot). Could technically be converted to a manual that should be better than the 550's that the US market got.
