M2 CS spoiler install on Competition

As a summer project, I want to get rid of the OEM M2C rear spoiler and replace it with CS one. I think it looks cool. Can anyone confirm the part number: 51-62-8-085-400.

Also how difficult is it to replace and install? Has anyone done it here successfully and are you happy with it?

It looks like we also need to buy the Adhesive Tape Rear Spoiler, M2 CS - BMW (51-62-8-085-401) separately, adding to the cost. Total price is around $800.

I am thinking to also install the rear CF diffuser but that's a separate topic.

Thanks in advance.

Used to fit the M Performance CF ones to vehicles quite often. It's been a few years since I've done one, but the OEM one comes off fairly easily with a plastic trim tool and then peeling off the remaining adhesive. You'll want to make sure that surface is completely adhesive free before installing the new spoiler. We used to use a bonding adhesive called "Betalink", tube of black stuff that is sticky as hell, and it also came with a bottle of adhesive remover, same brand (looks like bimmerworld has it in stock, https://www.bimmerworld.com/Body-Aer...stall-Kit.html). But yeah, you just put a single bead of that stuff along the length of the spoiler and press it down into place. Don't over apply the stuff as again, it gets messy real quick. Then just use some tape to hold in down in place and leave it for a day to dry.

Can't confirm if the M performance spoiler is the same one as the CS one, but the application process would be identical.

It depends if your OEM M Perf spoiler was attached at port or dealer. If at port, it could be attached with Betalink or similar and be extremely hard to remove. That's what keeps me from attempting the same mod.

I agree that Betalink is a major PITA to deal with.

The good news is that M2C lip is not an optional port install item.
They are standard install at factory and are trim tape not betalink.

Are you sure? I thought all M Performance options on the Monroney were port installed in the US?

You are correct Chris about the port install CF lip, however I think he was referring to the OEM lip that comes with the car as standard; that comes on the vehicle with adhesive tape

And yes, can confirm that Betalink is a PITA to work with

Ah yes, I misunderstood the OP and thought he had an M Perf spoiler to remove.

Removing the tape from the previous spoiler was a bit of a pain too. Thought I'd be done in an hour, ended up taking about 3 just to remove the tape. I can't imagine what removing betalink would require.

This will remove the adhesive on the trunk in minutes. I used it when I installed my carbon spoiler and fully endorse it. Just go light and slow and it takes the adhesive off very quickly and leaves your trunk looking new.

Where were you with this advice 3 years ago when I did mine! Great call out, going to pick one of these up for the future.

Thanks, not sure if I should buy Betalink or the one recommended on the website (Part # for adhesive: 51-62-8-085-401).

Maybe for the CS spoiler I need to buy the part above?

I only ever used the Betalink stuff, so I can't comment on the adhesive tape. But since that's what's used from the factory, I'm sure it's fine to use and probably easier to apply, lol.

I would never use beta link on anything, with properly applied VHB tape there's no reason to.

Good quality 3M tape and some adhesion promoter (not absolutely needed if the surface is good and clean) has always been plenty in the past for me. Even that was a fight to remove again sometimes. Betalink seems a bit overkill.

I removed the M Performance carbon fiber rear spoiler and installed the CS Spoiler. I used 3M VHB double sided tape after polishing the surface with a light compound. No issues at all.

I used fishing line to remove the original spoiler. I think normal 3M double sided tape has plenty of strength for that application.
