Steering wheel vibration and Cross Traffic Alert

Hey guys. Before I go to the dealer I wanted to run this by you.
I have a 22' X3M Comp. 5k miles. I have done some programming with Bimmercode like my prior vehicles. I am having an issue.
1. When blind spot alert kicks in I can barely feel the steering wheel. Its such a small vibration that I almost never feel it. Setting is set to strong already.
2. When cross traffic alert should kick in I don't get a sound alert. Sometimes that cross traffic alert is not even working like my other car which is a 2020 Grand Cherokee. That one gives me a heads up way in advance.
Is it something with Bimmercode? There wasn't any coding related to these things. Thanks,

Mine is set to strong as well and I barely feel it. So much so that I do not even notice it unless I am looking for it.

I had a 2014 X5 and you could definitely feel it. I hate we can't get the option to hear a sound.

BMW Cross Traffic Alert is a joke. It is nowhere near the other brands. KIA, Hyundai, Jeep, Volvo all have better systems. BMW should be ashamed of the Cross Traffic Alert system. X3mc is horrible and my M340I was just as bad. I would never trust it like I do our Jeep and Kia that actually work like it supposed too. Now the applying the brake when backing out of the garage sure does work.

So the consensus is that there is nothing wrong with the poor vibration of the steering wheel? and also the lack of the cross traffic alert sound?

I only have mine to compare it to, but yeah, it's a weak vibe. Some others have said theirs was weak, too. To be honest, I didn't know these had cross traffic alerting, I've never been in a situation where it would have activated, or if I was, nothing happened - like what you are saying.

Same here, light vibration for blind spot.

I've had the cross traffic alert beep at me a few times, from my experience it only beeps when you are moving/letting off the break. If not moving you will only see the red flash on the idrive camera. It will flash red on the side of potential impact, let go of the break then it will beep.

Not sure if it matters, I have the driving assistant pro.

Haven't tested this, just what I observed to be happening.

The X3 and your X5 operate differently. The X5 has a vibrator in the steering wheel. The X3 2020 and up have the vibration feature built into the steering rack. No vibrator in the steering wheel. The vibration is much more subtle now especially if you're comparing to an F15 X5. Those things straight up buzz and vibrate hard. It's normal for the X3

Thank you . Any notes on the cross traffic alert comment?

When cross traffic alert should kick in? Your car will determine if there is an impending issue with cross traffic. If you're sitting at a stop and a car is coming from your left or right, it's not going to pop up unless you're moving in the direction and it feels there will be an impending collision.

freshxdough X3MBullet Is there a way to Bimmercode E-sys to turn on steering wheel vibration/audible alerts instead of only visual red warning on rear cross traffic warning? I don't like how it's only a red flashing on the screen and no audible alert unless I'm inches from hitting something.

Rear cross traffic warning will only detect if the vehicle thinks there will be a possible collision. It will be red flashing just to make you aware but not actually warn you. I’ve had it do it different ways for me depending on the situation. But no, I don’t think you can change this, nor would I know to be honest. I don’t use esys. I use only dealer software and hardware. We don’t change coding with advanced values at dealer.

Hello everyone, not sure if this helps you but I dropped my 2019 X3 at the dealer yesterday for a similar issue. They replaced the vibration motor and test drove the car. The technician concluded that the vibration is still weak. They are reaching out to engineers at BMW-NA for guidance on how to proceed with the repair. The service advisor mentioned to me when I dropped off the car that he’s had other cars come in for the same issue. A service bulletin I found notes a possible need for both the vibration motor as well as a module and possibly a software update. I’ll keep you posted. They have me in a 2023 X3 loaner at the moment and the vibration is quite strong on this one so I have hope.

Update:
The dealer replaced the actuator motor which resulted in continued weak vibration of the steering wheel. After consulting with BMW NA, they now want to compare a similar car, either 2018 or 2019 X3. I’m waiting for them to locate one and have my car back temporarily. Upon driving the car myself I found the vibration a tiny bit better but it’s not consistent. It goes in and out, still very week. I plan on taking the car back next week to give the dealer time to locate another one to compare with. I’ll keep you updated.

Spoke with the dealer today. They are backtracking. The technician stated in writing that the vibration is weak however now the service advisor is saying that it’s normal. WTF?
