Hey Guys,

I read somewhere but couldn't find it after searching....
The question is, which readers out there can read the BMW DME? Specifically, if the tune detection code was tripped? I believe the 2 were GT1 and Autologic? Am i correct?

Yes. GT1 or an Autologic scanner will show all faults stored and give you the ability to clear them...

What your looking for if the warranty code is tripped is "tuning protection" in the form of a limp (reduced power mode) Those are the exact words when it shows on the GT1

Only OBDII related codes which amounts to probably less than 25%. I am hoping, and will be following up next week, that AutoEnginuity will have their software ready which can read and reset all BMW specific information.

a GT1 or autologic gives you codes that are hidden with OBD-II

It will show you all of the faults tripped by your car and even solutions to the problems

and also the ability to clear them

Uh, so a jb3 can be detected with the proper machine?

only if you run a pre29.2 version with a 29.2 in the car

That'll hide it pretty well

specify to terry you have a "post 29.2 dme" and the code wont be tripped

only downside is maybe -5/10wtq in the low end

yes and no... if its installed improperly and trips a code (as for any piggyback system) it can be detected... otherwise i dont think it can be.

True, but those are not as readily available to the comsumer. For instance, a GT1 costs over $1000 from what I recall (could have a foggy memory though). I was referring to PC based application and should have clarified that.

pre29.2 = older 335's post 29.2= new 335 or people who have had their software updated by bmw

haha yeah I assumed you misread the OP

hes asking if GT1 or autologic can check it

but to clarify: scalbert is correct, OBD-II readers will barely show anything

I contacted the manufacturers of the Autologic system and they claimed that their diagnostics can read and clear any code that the dealer diagnostics can detect.

I have seen a local private BMW mechanic read the detection codes with an Autologic and clear them at the press of a button.

They were descriptive not numeric codes and they specified "implausible air/fuel" as well as "wastegate duty cycles exceeded".

So I think as far as dealer level diagnostic detection is concerned, the codes are erased and invisible to the dealer.

However, I still believe that raw data is stored beyond this level of detection and BMW can download and read stored FASTA data within the ECU to determine that certain performance parameters have been exceeded.

However, this is just my personal opinion and may not be correct.

Thats what I wanted to verify! I know of 2 guys locally that have both GT1 and Autologic so wanted to see what showed and what didn't

I did email them and they are still in the waiting phase so not being release till next year sometime according to their reps.
