BMW Speed Camera App

Has anyone added the BMW speed camera app from connected drive?
It was only £20 so I gave it a go. It is very up to date and picks up even roadworks cameras which tend to move frequently.
However, I can't find a way of getting it to give audible warnings?
Yes it comes up in the display, but unless I am paying attention, it is easy to miss.
I think Waze is better, unless I am missing something?

All it does is display the warning on the dash / HUD. Having it on the HUD is great, as it is in your line of sight.

I use a TomTom for long journeys, as the built in satnav is woefully inadequate. That gives me the beeping warning for cameras.

I’m the same as GDEvans i have the speed camera app which displays on my HUD, which is great by the way but also use my Tom Tom app via Apple CarPlay which is far superior and more accurate than anything that BMW can produce.

I think the BMW speed camera app is now up to £25 now, it’s amazing how a war in Eastern Europe can put up app prices!

Yes I noticed that! Don't think I will be renewing. I use Waze which announces speed cameras and accidents etc.
I have never used TomTom as I thought you had to pay?

Yes unfortunately you do have to pay for the use of the Tom Tom app, it’s not that expensive, think it’s £36 for 3 years…I’d have to double check that but like I said previously it’s a great app and does exactly what it says on the tin.

Why would you pay when Google Maps and Waze are free?

Think it’s because all my previous destinations are already logged and saved etc, and I’m not too fussed about the £36 over 3 years. If it was a lot more expensive I’d probably move to Google.

You can do that on Google too. In fact I use Google maps on my iPad to look things up and plan journeys etc. when I go to my car, everything I looked at comes up in recent searches. Mind you I got caught out when planning a surprise weekend for the wife as the destination came up in the car when we were going shopping and she asked why was that in the sat nav!

I have a TomTom sat nav, as opposed to the app. I bought it a few years ago. But it cost only £120, and came with a built in SIM, and lifetime European map updates and lifetime live traffic alerts. I’ve certainly had my money’s worth from it.

It is a little sad that a £120 unit has better maps and better live traffic alerts than a £63k car. My Audi was on a par with the TomTom.

True. I don't think it will be long before they ditch their own sat nav in favour of apple or Google. I went over the 3 years in my last car while waiting for this one and the updates and traffic info stopped working wanting me to subscribe. I didn't bother as I use Google maps or Waze or Apple maps through CarPlay anyway. Better graphics and more up to date. The only place I use the BMW one is in the wilds of the Lake District or Scotland where there is no mobile signal.

I’ve done the free month trial but am getting nothing on dash or hud? Every now and again I get an audiable warning (think from carplay) and occasionally it shows on the dash only (but not for every camera).

Very odd. Won’t be buying for the year I don’t think.

I did a 500 mile round trip and it picked up every camera including the roadworks ones. No audible warning though

Audible warning is not an option. But like you, mine displays a warning for them all. It is very useful having it on the HUD.

Haven’t had an issue, and so far it’s warned of every camera, including motorway roadworks. Shows a warning and distance to the camera in the HUD.

Yes I paid the £20 and will have to pay it again when the rejected car goes back

I’d push BMW UK or the dealer to cover this.
