Break In service / Dealership issues
So i took my 2022 M3 comp Kayalami orange interior for break in service and steering wheel alignment.
1- they drove the car 12 miles unsure what the protocol is. 2- car has full PPF and Ceramic so i told them not to wash, they returned the car interior with door panel and mid console as well as seats dirty with grease. 3- they scratched my steering wheel. Ive attached some pictures. Any suggestions on the steering wheel , would you keep it like that i know its not that visible on camera but you can clearly see it and feel it in person. Just not happy with the experience. |

Unacceptable, but not unusual in today's world, unfortunately.

You could go back and ask to speak w the manager and see what they can do about it--if not to at least get a thorough cleaning, you'd be making them aware of this issue to improve upon it
So a few years ago the service dept did the same thing to the steering wheel on my 2 series and I could feel the scratch every time I drove it. Never went back, simply learned to accept it

Clean it yourself and move on. Steering wheel looks normal to me. Mention something to them next visit that they left some grease you had to clean and if they could be a little more careful this time.

Did you raise this with them asap? You have most leverage if you pointed these things out before leaving the dealership, and have some written communication about these things. If you reported it within the day or overnight, they might still consider what you're saying. Anything beyond that, you're sort of on your own.
With that in mind, I have Kyalami orange interiors too. You can clean the leather off yourself with this: https://www.amazon.com/GYEON-quartz-...dp/B01NAAUAG0/ You can further protect it from getting dirty using this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N57S9O6 For the steering wheel, it looks like someone's fingernails scratched it. You can try to clean it and coat it with the products above. Or you can straight off have the dealership address it through their 'leather guy' (they may have someone who comes by from time to time). If their fix is not acceptable, if they are good (don't count on it), they'd offer to replace the steering wheel body. Also, I don't know what goes on in your dealership, but BMW of Seattle always puts a plastic seat cover and plastic steering cover on right as the valet takes your keys.

Leather can be cleaned but I'm OCD about steering wheel scratches so I would be pissed. I've used lexol to treat those types of scratches in the past, but still feel it.

That would p!ss me off. Same thing happened to my steering wheel on my X3M.
Another time (not at BMW) When I went to go switch my tires to the winter set, some knucklehead drove my car with grease all over his hands. But that's a story for another day. I am curious what excuse they will give for putting mileage on the car. One mile, maybe two, MAX 5... but 12 |

Not that it's going to help, after the fact, but I would get a steering wheel cover, and install it yourself, in the service drive. There are also mirror hangers, like this. This is one is by Carbon Collective.
Hopefully the service manager makes it right. The dealer should have no problem taking care of the wheel for you. The interior is under warranty. I've had steering wheels, seat covers, and even floor mats replaced under warranty, due to wear, while still under bumper to bumper.

They drove your car 12 miles. That's literally grand theft auto. There is no reason to 'test drive' the car after the break in service.
I want to know what dealer this is. File a complaint with BMW Financial and tell them you want at least one payment waived |

I get that as I have the same obsessions, but it's been >1000 miles: Isn't it time the instrument cluster plastic protection from shipping was removed?

I have always had black interiors but I could always tell after a service or a repair visit that there was grease/mechanic residue, specifically in the areas you have in your pictures. Unfortunately the single use plastics and paper floor mats dont cover those areas and mechanics get very dirty during daily operation. They have gloves on grease on their clothes and they are not tender with cars. Techs and mechs really lack TLC for the cars. Have a chat with your dealer and have them correct it for you. You should not have to purchase products for their mistakes.
Also, consider getting interior care or preventative protections from a detailer or PPF shop. That color will really need it in the long run. |

to OP, I am glad you called them out on it. it just adds up to a bad look on them: the extra miles, the wash, the grease, the scratch
complete bullsh!t service experience if you ask me and I hope they make it right to be honest yeah I would ask for a steering wheel replacement (I wish I had when it happened to me) and a full interior cleaning (who knows what else has residue on it)

12 miles? I can see maybe 2-3 to get to op temp on the fluids. I would be really pissed about grease or a scratch--although I can't see it, I would flip out over. Fortunately, my dealer has Techs who are always spotless. I wouldn't expect less from a luxury car dealer.

My question is, Why did it need alignment at the break-in service?
That could be the reason for the test drive, they are required to do it if the touch any alignment settings. 12 miles? Yeah that's a little on the high side but not unheard of. You agree to this when you sign the repair order.
