Best ten tenths fun car to have for £15k
What do you recommend for a ten tenths fun car just to have a laugh in?
What I mean is a fun car that you can use all of the performance most of the time. I've put a cap of 15k because I think that should be enough to get something which is a laugh to drive. Some I have considered and my thoughts... Mini JCW (I really like these especially the Gen 2 and the Clubman in particular) MX5 NC (great drive but worried about be called something I'm not) Clio RS 200 Cup (Really rate these but its like I have just nicked a 19 year old car) Honda S2000 (good car but never really got on with the shape for some reason) PS - No Caterham's or kit based cars!! |

You could easily get an MX5 ND for your budget. It would also stretch to the 2.0 version. I've had both the 1.5 and the 2.0 and prefer the revvy nature of the 1.5.
I have never seen one being driven by a woman if that is a concern. They are an absolute hoot to drive. For example https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02207137762070 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02207217987057 |

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-sea...ostcode=Ch53FL Not huge power, skinny rear tyres by design. Fun. That link is filtered on the TRD, plenty more fish in the sea. Option B Risk all £15k on Bitcoin and go large £100k budget in 7 months 😂😂

I actually prefer the NC, I like the looks better, was thinking a limited edition or the venture edition or something. I would love one to charge and mod / make lighter as well! |

Yup. Ditto as above, mainly I saw guys driving them and always a great enthusiast scene and local meets. Highly recommend.

Might be a slightly controversial view, but a lot of the cars already mentioned are really still way too quick to have fun in all of the time, certainly 10/10ths…
Up here, where we have moorland roads that doing even 60 on can be a challenge, and I have no doubt that an old 1300 cc rally car type base would be the way to go… I think Peugeot did a 1300 cup version of the 205… Maybe it was even an 1100… and there are old 1300 Novas etc… tune the engines and beef up the handling and you have a really fun car that you could, on the right roads, go 10/10ths… MkII Escort Rally Cars would be awesome, but they might push the £15k limit... All of these would fit in with the ICE, manual gearbox idea of how to have fun actually driving... and they would all find your limits as drivers... This, for instance, was £7,800 https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/De...c-rally-car-13 If money were no option, one of the present WRC cars would be a hoot up here... One can dream... https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/De...ndai-i20-r5-77 I'd rather have that for a laugh than most super cars...

I also think the MX5 has much to recommend it. I was looking at an advert for one on Pistonheads the other day and the seller, who had also had an Elise, reckoned at sensible speeds the Mazda was almost as good to drive as the Lotus whilst being vastly easier to live with. Shame I can't justify a 3rd car in the household as this one looked immaculate and was just down the road from me!

205 GTi. You can floor the throttle pretty much all the time and stay mostly within the law, and the throttle sensitivity hasn't been matched since in any car I've driven. S2000 is no way the same, you have to scream it to enjoy it and that means you can't drive it 10/10 most of the time.

I would also say mx5, and I've had an S2000.
S2000 was great, I loved it, but definitely not a 10/10ths within the speed limit car. It needs to be over 6000rpm to have any fun in it, and that means only 1st and 2nd gear can be used in anger within the speed limit. Its also quite edgy at 8/10ths! The appeal is mainly the noise and character of the engine, which might be lost on someone with a F430. Up GTI?? Needs modifying to make truly great, but I've not had as much fun on the roads since... Ever I think. |

I have not got the 430 back yet really miss it, its waiting on the Plenums and rocker covers to be re-painted, they have to go off to a specialist that has quite long wait times! |
