Apple AirTag
Just wondering how many people are using apple AirTag as a form of tracking on vehicles
Noticed that when a friend borrows the vehicles for the day. His iPhone gets an alert to say that a "AirTag is found moving with you" How do I disable this feature so other iPhone users never get this alert ? Thanks |

You can't, it's a way to prevent people from using AirTags for nefarious purposes like stalking.
Best you can do is share the tag with someone else giving them the ability to disable the notifications https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/tur...safety-alerts/ |

So if I hide one on my bike and it gets stolen by an iPhone user, they'll know there's a tag?

I have AirTags in my non-BMWs, as well as all my equipment cases, and its a nice bit of extra piece of mind. Recently flew interstate for a project, and taped AirTags in the lining of each of my Pelican cases. I was actually able to see them flying with me using the in-flight WiFi, taking the nervousness of the "will they arrive on the carousel at my destination" out of the equation. |

I’ve just bought a four pack for our luggage.
We’re off to Europe and the end of the month so it will be good to know where our bags are when they get lost |

I have one on my dogs leash. Doggo pulls like crazy on a leash when he sees other dogs so I fugured if if if he ever got away from us or the dog walker the tag would help.
Wish I had more uses for them bc at $25 it feels like a steal |

I've contemplated doing this as well as we are traveling to Europe on Sept. I keep reading a ton of stories on lost luggage. Apparently, there was a major debacle at Heathrow with luggage recently.

Recently? Seems more like the norm for Heathrow. On a trip to London a decade ago our flight home got canceled and our luggage ended up in a huge pile in some hangar. We got stuck in London for 3 more days without our luggage. It finally caught up with us a week after we were home.

This is why I never check bags. Still I wonder how useful tracking the bag would actually be. I mean it's not like you could just go to it and take it unless it was stolen which I don't think is usually the case. You would still be stuck dealing the the bureaucracy involved in actually getting the luggage to you.
I remember a video I saw with some guy on youtube who mailed out a bunch of these tags. I think he sent one to the Apple CEO and one to Elon Musk and one I think to North Korea. Anyways I just remember one of them was lost in the mail and he could track it to some airport or fedex facility or something like that. Even though he knew exactly where the package was, relaying that info to fedex or whoever it was didn't really help at all and ultimately he never got that package back and it never made it anywhere. |

There are actually multiple stories of people being able to get their luggage back using AirTags. Some working with the airlines, and some even going straight to the airport. For example... |

I guess I am looking for input. What is the range of these devices and how long does the battery last?
I have this dog, below, and he likes to go out at night. For all practical purposes he becomes invisible in the dark. We picked up a thermal scope, but you can only see him if there is nothing in the way. He goes galivanting about on the farm. Usually he is chasing rabbits, raccoons, deer, coyote or possum. Sometimes finding him is impossible. If one of these were on his collar how exact or close would it pinpoint him? |

Wife and I both use them.
I have one on our RV trailer I have one hidden in my case of tech gear My 12yo son agreed to take one in his pack on a school field trip to Washington DC. It was impressive. Practically real time updates on the map where he was. |

Something like a Vodafone Curve (if you have those) will be better for a dog and some other uses.

I have them on my keys and my cars. Yes you can hear it trilling but not really if you are on the phone or listening to music. And it announces itself every once in a while. I have location services on my cars but consider these ancillary.

I’m almost always flying for worth with several checked Pelican cases, so that extra piece of info and time is valuable. |
