New car ordered. Not a BMW!
It’s a LR. 110 Defender, dynamic SE, with the 300hp diesel lump.
I know I know, it will breakdown blah blah, but two of my friends have them and they have been faultless. Great test drive and it has space and ruggedness to fit into our rural lifestyle and the wife’s new dog day care and boarding business. No bling, just a few practical extras, but it can sure shift for a big bus and is loaded with kit as standard. BM will be moved on after our summer holiday in Sept, so if anyones interested in a one owner F31 340, should be on the market in a few months, then down to one car until this and the Motorhome arrive. Now the 9-12 month wait |

It will be a long old wait but they are a great drive and I love the looks. Been on a waiting list myself for 6 months now and no sign of a build date yet. Likely to be the new year old which will be 12 months from order.

I went for a test drive a bit reluctantly to be honest and mainly because my wife likes them and it would be mainly for her to drive. I was more impressed than expected and as I have never had a Land Rover an order was placed.

Very nice!
We are month in to Land Rover ownership (10 year old Disco 4), and nothing has broken yet either! We absolutely love it though. I love how it drives, the size, the practicality of it. I also love that I don't care or worry about it in the slightest, and then when I arrive at a supposed parking area to go for a walk in the forest or up a mountain I can put it anywhere I like, without worrying about grounding it, getting stuck or whatever. They totally work for a rural lifestyle, and since getting it then I've found myself nosying at the LR configurator, playing around with Defenders and Disco 5s.

If any thoughts of a Defender Terry stick your name down now as the wait is long. It’s only a £1000 deposit which is fully refundable so there is zero risk and at least the name is in the hat.

The issue will be if I start having issues and spending a fortune on repairs, then I expect my resilience to stick with older cars will be tested. I'd be more inclined to upgrade the X3 at some point to a Cayenne or maybe an Electric Macan.

Congrats they are very very classy lookers and of course extremely rugged with all the end of the world capability you will ever need.
I'm not so sure about the 'great drive' comment further above but as I've not tested own will assume. Let the waiting game commence! 9-12 months, ouch.

Great choice. Colleague has had one pretty much since they first came out, with the full Urban Automotive treatment, and it's lovely. A very good drive too, think that bit surprised me the most. Hopefully the wait feels quicker than it is!

I had a 110 Dynamic SE 250 for a couple of days last year. Really liked how it drove and felt mid range spec was a good match for it.
Vs. The D5, a lot less spacious, it was clear how they were aimed at different markets- despite LR never managing to articulate that clearly. Ps. It probably won't break down and they'll look after you if it does. My first one had sensor gremlins that didn't strand me once and the second was impeccable on the reliability front.

I followed one of these the other day. I seriously thought it was some kind of Jeep until I saw the LR badge.
Anyone remember the days when a LR defender was a utility vehicle used by farmers that didn't cost more than a small Country's GDP? Ahhh happy days! |

My first D5 was in Carpathian Grey, one of the £2k-ish premium metallics. I then had a couple of weeks in an Eiger loaner and realised how much better suited it was to our climate and grim winter days. Eiger looks great dirty or clean and takes on a blue-ish tinge in sunlight (to my eyes at least). For a standard metallic I think it's a great colour.

Eiger is pretty common choice so won’t be hard to see one. It does suit them well and the colour I have chosen. Silicon silver also looks good but it’s more expensive as it’s a premium colour. Silver would then be my next choice.

I'm about six months from ditching my 335d, it's a turd. And I'll be going for what I intended to buy in the first place, either a 4.4 TDV8 L322 or a Disco 4. The LR's aren't the most reliable on the whole but they've got the 'it' factor and that's something that BMW seem to be completely lacking. And they can't be any less reliable or badly designed than my current car...
I hope you enjoy your defender, my mate's got one of the first ones produced and he loves it. It had a few expected niggles but nothing major and it was all dealt with pretty slickly. |

Lovely car! The wait will be worth it, I currently have an Eiger Grey Velar and it's a great colour plus hides the dirt really well.
Only thing to watch with Land Rover is the lack of price protection they've now switched to as a policy. I did have the new RRS on order for potential delivery later this year/start of next year on an agreed contract hire deal, but that deal has changed already as the list price of the car has already increased before deliveries even start (price changed within 6 weeks of the launch), plus any future price rises before delivery will also be factored in down the line. Not sure how they can get away with changing an agreed signed lease deal, but that's now their policy. Will also apply to you as a retail customer, but hopefully they've made you aware of that. So the RRS order has been cancelled as haven't a clue what I'd be paying once it finally arrrived. X7 ordered in it's place and that's arriving in just a few weeks at a fixed price |

The beauty of the defender is at least the lead times are protecting values. My main fear is close to delivery, if the values are still strong will the dealer cancel my order/delivery and sell it on at a premium? Appreciate it’s an established dealer but I have a built in distrust of them all, so it’s something to be mindful of. I will discuss this at our next contact. Open to suggestions on how or if I can protect myself from that happening, as I signed to say I would not sell on within the first 6 months of ownership unless back to the dealer, feel I need a reciprocal approach. |

The sunroof for the 3rd row and roominess of the boot once 7 seats are up are definitely pluses for the x7 compared to the x5 but the latter is sportier and zippier when comparing engine likes. Pity porsche don't do a 7 seater(landjet in 2025) or thats the only other marque i see myself in. Other mass market ev's are 5 seater so not considering them at all. The wait is on but a part of me thinks the x7 is a fine beast to be in till the real ev world kicks off mid decade. |
