Any way to get rid of the remaining miles in tank display on dash?
It seriously stresses me out. Lol. I looked through the manual and menus and it doesn’t seem I can get rid of this. I’d rather just have the fuel level only that is displayed next to it.

It confuses the heck out of my non-enthusiast SO in his 530e as it changes constantly. I get why it's so weird in his car (battery charge level, what sort of driving he's done that day, etc...) but his level of annoyance with it is off the charts due to his belief that the car should be psychic regarding where he's going to drive it tomorrow. Because I am an enthusiast, he expects that I can explain it's behavior to his satisfaction...and I can't. I've tried.
I nod my head and change the subject as soon as I can whenever it comes up. |

Don't let it get too low and you shouldn't get stressed :-).
Or look at it differently as the car is now lighter and more agile ;-). |

It just bugs me how it fluctuates so dramatically for no reason. I go to the store with it reading 120. The store is 2 miles away, so 4 miles round trip. I drive conservatively and come home and it says 110 left. I get up the next morning, fire her up and now it’s 95. I know it’s inaccurate but still annoying. Haha.

I usually don't bother with it in town unless it shows less than 60 miles range.

Oh that number is merely an estimate. You should see it as an opportunity to prove it wrong.

In your example, although you only drove 4 miles, the average consumption would likely have been higher than you had got on your previous trip(s), so it brings down the average and also, therefore, the projected MTE. The car likely 'overfuels' on firing up in order to light off the cats ASAP. The algorithm sees this as an even lower mpg and not knowing how long your trip will be it brings down the projection. If you kept driving the MTE should go up again. I have noticed mine also changes if I switch engine mode. Bottom line, it does its best to give you a real time indication of likely MTE using your recent usage profile and it will typically be cautious. BTW - you will likely notice that the closer you get to empty the more erratic the projection becomes unless you have done an extended amount of near steady state driving (e.g. on a freeway)

Wow...
I did not it was there until now. I'm OCD about many things, and not letting my cars go below 1/2 tank is one of them during the week. I like getting fresh fuel, so that helps justifying the frequent gas station visits. But to the OP point. Yes, it would annoy me, and it probably will now that I will see it staring down at me. In other cars, displaying the MTE has always been an option.

I don't see the issue here, either you look at the gauge and guess how many miles you have left or it tells you.

In case you're looking for another indicator of low gas; when you get to a certain point the car will limit engine RPMs to get you a little further.

Interesting. I use that feature on every car I own. I probably look at that more than the actual gas gauge too. I find it to be accurate. Once I get down to 60 miles or less, I fill up.

hahaha! Nah. I just prefer using the traditional gauge + when the car yells at you that you’re getting low. Having the MTE stare at me and constantly fluctuate back and forth for no reason annoys me. Yesterday I pull out of the garage with 101 miles drive literally 1 mile to my sons school doing school zone speeds and it says 89mi when I park at the school. WTF.

The system makes a moving average of the consumption over the last miles and estimates the range.
Apparently last generations were averaging over a longer distance, making it less nervous and reducing oscillations. If the amount of previous data considered is not hardcoded, maybe there is a coding parameter for this. |
