Pickup checklist

So, I searched bimmerpost forum and found one post on what are different things we need to check or request before picking up/ accepting the vehicle. I am posting the list here - please feel free to add!

1. Test Drive the vehicle
2. Do not drill the front bumper for the license plate/ no front license plate bracket mounted/license plate holder in the trunk
3. Do not wash the car.
4. There should be no more than 20 miles on the car ( I know this doesn't always happen)
5. There should be absolutely no swirls/scratches in the paint.
6. If car is not picked up the first day-keep the doors locked, and the car stored away from customers
7. transportation/shipping blocks removed
8. Keep a printout of options and make sure all options are installed
9. No dealer badges or license plate holders
10. Check the interior for damages
11. Check the wheels for any issues
12. Check the underside of the bumpers
13. Full tank of gas
14. not to take off any wraps on the outside or inside once delivered. do not take off any protective covers or wraps
15. Car should only be driven the bare minimum required - no test drives
16. Freebies- car mats (all weather?), and some dealers give credit at the gift shop
17. Check all indicators, head and taillights are working
18. Make sure the BMW mobility kit is included in the trunk
19. Owner's manual/First Aid kit in trunk
20. Digital key card in glove box (Comfort access option)
21. State inspection and emissions (if applicable)
22. Cushions Pillows for the back seats
23. locking wheel nut for the wheels/alloys
24. dealer to verify the charge and health of the 48 volt battery, and check for any related error codes

Have the dealer verify the charge and health of the 48 volt battery, and check for any related error codes (see attachment).

Very helpful! Sadly, I was unable to get this from BMW support in spite of multiple attempts.

Never received the first aid either, and our dealer sucked with freebies. My previous experience with BMW and Mercedes was excellent, felt like they appreciated our purchase. This dealer - nothing. Reduced our trade by $2000, nothing off the MSRP, and I literally asked if they could tossin the mats in, but no - I was given a measly $50, cup, key chains, and pens - whoopee! I just like to feel like they appreciate the sale, the all-weather mats would have been nice.

I didn't get mats - they did give us a bottle of branded (to the dealership) bourbon though.

Some of you guys need to find a new dealer!

We bought our XB7 at the height of the supply chain shortage BS and ended up getting everything we asked for. Sales manager even ran over as we were leaving with two sets of windshield wiper blades.

I don't think that was the case. First BMW was an X5 35d and they included the All Weather mats.

Second was a 750i and we got the mats plus a rear seat cover for the doggo.

I think it all comes down to negotiation tactics. The fact that there's like 6 BMW dealers near me (Chicagoland) also helps. If you're somewhere like OKC with no other dealers for 250 miles things might be different.

That last part is probably spot on. More competition in Chicagoland. I'll let you know what goodies I get, if my car ever gets out of QC.

It's best to try for freebies during the negotiation process. The dealer has a sheet called "things we owe" or something to that effect which is actually a legally bound contract that they cannot walk back.

Stand firm with your demands and you'll get what you're asking for. Best of luck!

Yes, our previous cars were in FL, where every 60 miles there is a dealer. I'm in Nashville, owned by Sonic... I'd have to cross over states to get a different dealer.

I'd add relax, enjoy the delivery, forget most of the above, and drive off with a smile.

While it is obvious that we will test drive before accepting, I don't want to just assume. When your car gets stuck in QC for 20+ days, you will need to maybe test drive longer.....

Maybe check the tow hook cover. I remember one member had issue with that.

Yes -- make sure it's securely seated. If you push slightly on the cover's embossed triangle and it tumbles loose, it's not fully seated (you can also determine this if it's not flush with the surface of the rest of the bumper). I found that nudging it toward the vehicle center line while pushing firmly on it makes it snap into place. Subsequently, it requires firm pressure on the triangle to snap it loose.

I totally get the majority of the checklist items. In theory I understand the premises of #3 (Do not wash the car) and #14 (Not to take off any wraps on the outside or inside once delivered...), but from a practical perspective, if the dealer doesn't remove the interior/exterior wraps and doesn't wash the dust off the rest of the vehicle, how can you tell if the paint or interior are damaged? (#5,#10).

I picture myself in the parking lot peeling plastic and paper off and handing it to the confused sales manager, followed by me performing a foam cannon/two-bucket wash, spot-free rinse, blow dry, and UV paint inspection.

Am I missing something regarding the process, or is this actually what one should be doing? Alternatively, if you took the unwashed car home covered in protective wrapping and then discovered the hood had a 12" gash under the wrap, isn't that worse? Apologies in advance for my lack of knowledge as I'm new to this exciting new level of hard core automotive OCD!
