Vehicle steering right and left even when Assisted Drive is not enabled

This is my first BMW; and I have been experiencing something that is not explainable. The car steering wheel is adjusting right and left as I am driving even when the assisted driving is OFF. On a highway, I should be able to drive without holding my steering wheel tightly; it feels stressful to hold the steering wheel firmly so its not doing that left/ right adjustments. We have Integral Active Steering on our vehicle, but I can't think its because of that either.

Any idea why this could be happening?

Calling to get a service appt next week; but wanted to check here if someone is experiencing the same issue!

maybe it's the lane keeping assist trying to keep you centered between the lines? you can go into the safety settings and turn it off.

Try driving between the lines instead of on them.

Sounds like you are experiencing "Tramlining". Where the vehicle tends to follow the grooves or contours in the road. This can happen with wide tires. I have noticed this a bit with my wife's new 2023 X7 with 22's on the freeway.

Will have to look it up. What do you do in these cases? Just live with it ?

Doesn't Lane Centering only activate when Driver Assistance is enabled? I believe Lane Departure is enabled all the time. Do I have that right?

Pretty much, BMW uses very aggressive alignment settings geared towards handling which may contribute to this.

I don't have this problem at all on my X7 40i. I can let go of the wheel without engaging cruise control and it tracks straight without bobbing between the lines as long as the road is straight. Maybe the op is experiencing tire pull or some other alignment issue.

Will have to take it to the dealer next week. The car has 120 miles on it and even though it's a small issue, it's annoying...

Correct, and the lane departure is active, so it can/will adjust if you get too close to the lines. It's similar to have your lane keep assistant set to "late" instead of "early", maybe one step beyond.

Perhaps the lane departure assist is on high sensitivity.
I haven't experienced this but on a similar issue, the steering is way too aggressive when assisted driving is on. And when trying to overtake steering on an exit or a fork, I'd have to fight it or cancel the assistance altogether.
