Can anyone recommend a TV?

My 75 inch TCL is not working...it turns on but I think the bulb burnt out because I can barely see the picture. I bought this TV less than 2 years ago...

I am looking for a new 75 inch to replace.

This TV was recommended to me and it's a little outside my budget but I would splurge if it's amazing.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-75...?skuId=6499752

Is anyone a TV expert and can point me in the right direction? I would like to spend around $1,500

I have that Sony and it's very good although I guess prices have gone up because I got the 85" for $2200. I have a TLC 55" QLED in the living room which is also very good. Not sure if they make a 75" version but if they do probably in your price range. Just make sure it's QLED that gives you great black levels.

Should I get the protection plan if I get it? It's $300 for BestBuy. I just don't want to run into an issue and have to replace it again after a couple of years.

Yes, and it's a new brand. It's called a NO TV.

You do know even though you don't watch TV, most people do? That actually makes them normal, and you are...

...different.

Up to you. I don't buy extended warranties as a general rule. We have only had it for about a year, but have had another TLC in our RV for probably 4-5 years no issues and that one bounced around all over the country.

Is the picture 3D? Not actually 3D but the quality really good where it shows depth? Not sure how to describe it...I guess I need to go to BestBuy to see how they look

I also have a TCL 55". It's been running fine for the three years or so since buying it.

As to extended warranties, I also don't buy extended warranties for electronics. For significant electronics purchases, I purchase them on my AMEX card. The card I have which I'm not sure if all AMEX cards have this will double the manufacturer's warranty by up to an extra year. I've had to use this card benefit before on a very expensive work group printer. Purchased the printer with my AMEX. Printer started having problems just over a year after purchase. Called AMEX up. Was asked to send in a copy of the sales receipt, the card statement showing I had paid the entire amount with my AMEX card, and the repair estimate. The motherboard needed to be replaced which was over $900. AMEX paid the entire amount.

The problem you might run into is when you purchase many of these Chinese brands which TCL, Hisense, and I'm pretty sure Vizio is also Chinese. The problem is many times when the product is outside of warranty, you can't get the unit repaired either through the manufacturer or with a third party repair center. From my understanding, the aforementioned manufacturers, only do a replacement if the TV fails under warranty. The TCL and Hisense TVs I purchased were cheap enough that I'm not really worried about them being essentially throw away TVs. Now my Sony A90J is a different story. Paid $3400 for that thing.

If you want depth and quality of the color, contrast, and just overall general picture quality, OLED is it. The only thing LCD does better than OLED is absolute brightness. So if your TV is going to be in a bright room, LCD might be a better choice. Otherwise, if you're concerned with picture quality, OLED is the only choice. But you're not going to be able to get the same price per inch value from OLED that you can with LCD. Quality comes at a price.

This is a picture I took of the movie, "Rogue One" that's paused/still frame. But I did pay extra to have the in house ISF calibration/break in done by the store I purchased it from, Value Electronics. The calibrator that did the ISF calibration goes by the name D-Nice on AVS Forum. He's legendary in his knowledge and ability to dial in TVs to reference video quality. I had him calibrate two Pioneer plasmas in my home quite some years ago.

Forgot to say, the TV is my Sony A90J in 65".

We got an LG OLED a couple of years ago and really like it. I’m sure the model has been replaced multiple times now, but I will say researching TVs is a bigger PITA than it ever was. Too many choices.

Thanks for your advice. This helps more than any review I've read.

Without question, the LG C2 should be at the top of your list to evaluate.

If you live in a market where ATSC 3.0 (OTA 4K) broadcasts are a thing, the sony you posted is a great choice. I was shopping just about a year ago and at that time only Sony included ATSC 3.0 tuners in their non super expensive models, so I bought a 43" X85 model. I've been happy with it, except for when I try to play my (ironically) Sony UBP-X800M2 disc player. I ended up swapping my old Oppo 103D back into the system because I only have maybe 3 4K discs anyway and I don't use streaming apps (I have a Fire Stick, Roku and a Chromecast hooked up and I pretty much use the Fire Stick unless I have a reason to use something else.)

Edit: I also bought an "open box - excellent" model from Best Buy, totally happy with that purchase, after setting it up you couldn't tell it from new.

Buy from Costco, and get their extended warranty.

Me too, just waiting for it to burn in and have to be replaced. OLED is flawed big-time.

LG also won't do the Disney package we wanted, the app won't even load on the TV

If you can buy it from Costco

Costco's extended warranty is cheap compared to same from best buy.

I didn't realize TV could still have 'burn in' issues...I'm avoiding OLED if that's the case
