G80 Xdrive H&R sport springs. Why is it slammed? SOLVED!!!
SOLVED.
I WAS SENT M4 RWD SPRINGS IN A BOX LABELED G80 XDRIVE SPRINGS. Part numbers on the actual springs is 28616-2 when they're supposed to be 28616-3 as the box said they were. I'm going to contact mike@x-ph.com for a solution. Installer is charging me twice to reinstall correct springs. This problem is both waste of time and money. Thanks for those who provided input. Hello. Like most, I've agonized over which option to choose for a drop. My car is a year round driven car, snow too. I wanted an OEM+ look that gets me both an improved stance while maintaining decent clearance. I also definitely wanted to stay with a conservative drop to maintain stock ride quality of shocks. I chose H&R SPORT over Supersport for my Xdrive G80 (confirmed the part number). Upon picking it up after install yesterday, I was worried about the rear not being low enough with sport springs vs. SS. To my shock, the rear is so low that its tucked. Its lower than what another Xdrive G80 on SuperSport, like BOCAREY are. I loved how his car looked but i needed a more subtle drop. So imagine how I felt when I saw the car slammed. I like the front, and its within what I expected of the 1.2" drop, but something is off with the rear. No weird noises, all seems fine with that. Upon driving to work today, once at in town speeds, I noticed an annoying jittery feeling about the ride, unlike the smoothness of its OEM ride. I'd say it rides slightly firmer with a less well damped feeling over surface imperfections. I also think this feeling is due to the more limited range of function of the stock shock. I much prefer stock ride quality. Having no experience with spring install, I cannot figure out what might introduce such variability in ride height outcome after install. I'd appreciate any insight before getting in touch with the installer. 12mm Macht Schnell spacers are on the rear wheels in photos. Thank you. Last edited by DMD; 10-27-2022 at 11:35 AM.. Just did my rears couple days ago 4 times. Hardly any room for error. It’s literally one big bolt next to the shock bolt and 3 small bolts that mount the shocks to the car that needs to come off. With two people it takes an hour. Wonder if the springs are defective. Btw Im speaking for rwd

I actually used your previous photos when deciding on sport vs ss And yes my car is slammed in comparison. I took it back in today. I'm having them take a spring off the rear and confirm part number on the actual spring itself. Something's just not right. |

So I think I have the same problem. I just got a picture from the tech that lowered my car and the rear looks a lot lower than all the other pictures I've seen. I checked my order and I ordered the sport springs for X drive. How did you end up finding out they were the wrong springs?

I doubt they'd reimburse install cost when the install is likely much more than springs themselves. H&R needs to correct this problem somehow. |

Update: Received new springs. More problems!!!!
I received a new order i had placed for 28616-3 M3 xdrive SPORT springs.
It gets more confusing. Inside the box are two different part numbers for front and rear. One for M4 rwd 28616-2 (front) 1.2" drop Another for M3 rwd. 28616-1 (rear) 0.4" drop Neither of these are xdrive specific part numbers. The drop heights would be equivalent to 1.2" front and .4" rear……but neither spring is for the xdrive. Does this mean there really isn't a specifically engineered spring for xdrive? This makes me lose confidence and trust in a company such as H&R. Is there an actual spring specifically made for xdrive and it's differences in weight ….. etc Or, they never engineered a specific spring for xdrive and they were just making a combo set and calling it xdrive? |

If you click the photo for specific xdrive part number, you'll see it's also a combo.
-3 front and -1 rear. This tells me there is a specific -3 part number for sure. Could be that all rear springs are interchangeable between rwd and xdrive Regardless, this is unacceptable. Makes me wonder if everyone else whose installed them already aware that they have correct part numbers. jpsimon BOCAREY are two names i can think of from memory. |

1.2" drop in front and. 4" drop in rear. I have zero issues with these springs and ride quality is still incredibly close to factory. Front part# 28616-2 Rear Part# 28616-1 Last edited by Impulse20098; 10-30-2022 at 08:33 PM.. |

I agree with you 100%
The buyer/owner shouldn't have to pay for repeat labor because of H&R's poor quality control while sorting/packaging. Not to mention the subsequent "inspection" which evidently doesn't do much. Also, most people don't have the time to drop off a car and wait for the springs to be replaced. I always have to ask a friend or my wife, to follow me to the shop in a second car. |
