Recommended iOS app and OBD device

Noted several iOS Apps (bimmercode, bimmerlink) and many devices on Amazon. I am only looking to read failure codes and resent service messages, x-oil change, and such. Trying to keep prices down, don't need anything sophisticated. Suggested H/W and App? Thanks in advance
