18 inch wheels

Hi all,

For those of us getting standard 18" wheels, here is a video that shows the wheels in great detail

It seems like all manufacturers design their cars around the largest wheels available, and then the smaller options frequently look out of place.

While some of it is about looks, I personally care lot more about comfortable ride.
I used to have an X3 with M sport package and had to sell it because I could not stand the stiff ride, it was hurting my back. So unless I am in a Lexus, no wheels larger than 18s for me...

I didn't like them at all. It made the vehicle look run-of-the-mill if not downright cheap. If I end up getting this vehicle, regardless of xLine vs. M Sport trim, it will definitely have the optional 20" wheels. They look sweet in person.

If the 20" wheels came with all season tires, I definitely would have ordered them. But I don't want to deal with storing and swapping a set of winter tires. So I split the difference with the 19s.

or...a thought...order the standard 18", keep them for winter tires (if applicable to you) and then choose from an abundance of after market wheels...

I'm in the deep south so no need for winter tires...and I'm not bashing anyone who has aftermarket wheels, but no way would I have them on a Bimmer.

Just out of curiosity, but why wouldn't you put aftermarket wheels on a bimmer?

I've just always thought it was funny to see people remove $$$ factory wheels on a luxury vehicle and throw on a aftermarket, kinda boy-racer. I will say however, with this current trend of wheels having this Transformers look most prevalent on electric vehicles, I may be forced to do it.

I think if done tastefully, a good set of aftermarket wheels makes the car look better, plus they can be lighter/stronger than factory wheels. I do see a lot of BMW's here with tacky and cheap chrome or excessively large wheels, but a good set of split spoke BBS forged wheels will make almost any BMW look better in my opinion. I'm personally not a fan of most of the wheels BMW has had on their cars since the mid 2000's. My X1's gonna be a lease though, so I may just keep the factory 18's on there. That and none of my old wheels will fit since the bolt pattern is different.
