Software update process?

My iX M60 is running software version 07/2022.33. I understand there have been a few updates to the software version. Neither my vehicle, nor my app say there are any updates. Do I really need to make an appointment to get the "Over the air" software update installed? If so, is it a lengthy appointment?

Incremental updates (the .xx ones) are delivered OTA as and when required based on car specs. Some get them, others don't. Significant updates happen OTA a while after they get released to the dealer network. My theory is that BMW does it this way to ensure that a major update doesn’t break anything. 7/2022 was only released to OTA a few weeks ago, and dealers are now flashing 11/2022. I wouldn’t expect to see 11/2022 that rolling out OTA until January/February next year by which time dealers should have access to 3/2023.

But, since I don’t work for BMW this remains all guesswork on my part.

My car still isn't being prompted to download 7/2022 over OTA. It says i have no update.

What version are you on at the moment? 3/2022?

I had my 2022 i4 M50 for 6 months, and not a single OTA update.

My 2022 530e got several OTA update. Our 2022 B8 Alpina gets OTA updates.

Our two iX and our son's i4....ZERO OTA updates :-O

Even my much loved, but finicky Jaguar I-Pace got OTA all the time. Same with our Defender and Range Rover. I honestly do not even think OTA is really working for BMW.

Porsche also supposedly has "OTA" updates, but in both our Taycans (2020 and 2022)...we had to turn the car in for service for all "OTA" updates :/

Any updates on what’s new in 11/2022?

My 2023 iX M60 has software 07/2022. I took delivery of my car in October 2022.

My spouse just traded our iX 50 last night for a 2023 M60. It has software 11/2022.

I noticed the 11/2022 software has some icon on the main screen about self parking with the My BMW app. My 07/2022 software does not have this.

I have checked over and over again for OTA, and nothing. It was the same with my i4 M50 I had for 6 months; not a single OTA.

Do we know what exact changes or benefits 11/2022 iX software has over 07/2022?

No OTA updates here either, on v07/2022.45. Four months, but in that time there have been 4 updates of which I'm aware - my last was at the dealer. The OTA update releases in the iX seem considerably slower than on iD7, but I have seen at least one poster say they got one. Maybe the rash of recalls in the last half of 2022 has something to do with it.

I have been told by BMW that 11.2022 OTA has been delayed to early next year. It doesn’t bring much in the form of user visible updates apart from the Digital Art My Mode and the ability to buy Parking Assistant Pro from the connected drive store. I’ll dig up the bulletin and post it here when I have a moment.

You can ask your service dealership to install it based on the above though.

I had 7/2022.33 updated to 11/2022.30 today to enable my purchase of Parking Assist Pro and to address recall 0065020400.

In the 30 minute ride home from the dealer, general ID8 system responsiveness, gesture control, and scrolling and selecting tunes off my USB-C stick seemed much improved. I didn't yet observe any new features per se.

I'll have time for a deep dive shortly

Same process as trading in any model for another model

Find the car you want, agree on a value for the trade in (iX 50), agree on a sales price for the new car (M60), drive to dealer, do paperwork and drive away in your new car

Same dealer, we traded our 1st iX50 for an M60. The 50 is probably the best choice for all around value and features, but the M60 is a ton of fun
