Purchased 2002 bmw 525iT wagon for $3600
Vehicle is in decent condition. Motor, steering, transmission feel good. Leather upholstery is in great condition.
Vehicle is burning some oil. Seller told me to replace the oil filter housing gasket and supplied the part. I'm learning to repair this myself (first real car repair adventure). A rear window motor needs replacement, another adventure for me. As a novice in repair, I want to do what's right to keep this car in good shape. The E39 fiver is the perfect vehicle IMHO... other than those cupholders! Enjoy it! We skipped the E39 and went from an E34 wagon to a F10 (sedan) but I have always wanted one! The 530i in particular was all that in my book!
I don't know much about that engine, but OFHG should be in the realm of the possible. Do basic car stuff like change the transmission fluid, differential, coolant, brakes in addition to engine oil unless documented done recently. Will probably need spark plugs soon. Coolant hoses may also need to be refreshed. Look at the guibo (drive shaft/prop flex disc) which is probably hard and cracking. Be wary of the sunroof... it's going to be a weak point. Keep it closed and unplug the switch to not be tempted to open it! Suspension will need a refresh at some point, so think on what you will need for that. Paint and exterior looks great. You can buy the insert for the front bumper. Rims look great, don't change them! You'll have a full-sized spare so rotate it in presuming it matches. Your hatch glass should have a little button underneath the wiper that opens it up... best feature of the car!!! Hopefully you have the cargo cover. Those have a habit of disappearing over the years/owners. Everything else should be basic car stuff: Get a battery when the old one dies, alternator, starter, things like that that need replacing in a 20 year old car! So please enjoy and keep this car... it's a special one IMHO! Last of the RWD wagons! |

Definitely recommend getting the headlights restored, especially given that they are the face of the car.
My detailer did mine on my E39 and this is the result after just 15 minutes
