Sideview Mirror while in reverse

Why does it aim down at the ground when I put the car in reverse and how do I turn that off?

Just below the rocker switch (for adjusting the outside mirrors) is the selector switch for choosing the left / right exterior mirror. Slide the switch to the left to discontinue the Automatic Curb Monitor function (which aims the mirror down when in reverse).

No way! Thank you! That did work, however I think I switched it to control the passenger side, so to the right. But man, that makes me happy.

This has been a trick in all/most BMW vehicles (I think) since the 90s if not even earlier. Later many manufacturers also started to do the same exact trick (including Mercedes!)

Yep...even earlier...BMW had the "kerb" tilt function on my 85 e30 325e...and my friends 84 528i:. And this is one design element BMW has not changed over the decades...the passenger mirror's control button...is how the "curb tilt in reverse" feature has always been activated/deactivated.

New to BMW... Thanks for the info. I couldn't stand that mirror tilting down and not letting me see on the passenger side of the car. This was very good news.

I like it for all my cars, definitely helps with parallel parking and to prevent curb rashes.
