Sprint Function?

Had anyone tried the new Sprint Function? I’m still in my 300 mile break in period, so haven’t attempted it. Seems similar to the sport response button in a Porsche that has the sport chrono package.

Interested to know if and how well it works.

Here’s the presser from BMW…
Drivers will also be able to make use of the new Sprint function when a quick burst of speed is needed. When the driver pulls the left-hand shift paddle for at least one second, the transmission automatically shifts into the lowest usable gear. At the same time, all the powertrain and chassis systems are switched to their sportiest settings and the mild hybrid system’s electric boost effect is activated.

My engine is broken in. I'll try it out today and report back.

Tried it a couple of times. It honestly just felt like how the acceleration would normally go if you dropped a gear. I tried it in Sport Plus mode so maybe that was the issue, as I would assume the car would already be in the lowest gear.

Ahhh...yeah, think since you were in Sport+ mode it only dropped a gear.

I believe it's best used when you're in Comfort mode and need to pass someone or something. The Sprint function should kick everything into sport+ mode and then drop you back to comfort mode automatically.

What I'm most interesting in is how the mild hybrid system impacts this change...the HP rating are the same from the previous V8TT, but now we have this motor in-between the tranny and engine. In most cases this would boost the power ratings, but BMW didn't do that in the M60i. This hybrid system resulted in a power boost in the 40i, but they could have also tweaked the engine as well...don't think the entire HP increase in the 40i is a result of the hybrid motor.

Anyway, I'm babbling now, so hopefully someone can try this again or when I get home and past my 300mi break in period I'll give it a go.

I think it's just marketing for the most part. My 2020 X7 40i basically does the same thing. They just didn't market it with a fancy name like "Sprint".

Below is my cars manual on paddle shifters.
