2023 X7 engine noise Who will save me! ! !
I always thought it was the 40I M Sport Pro engine with the same Quiet as the regular version
Quiet, but I received my 2023X7 40I M Sport Pro. Bad discovery. This is not the quiet cockpit I want. Even if I step on the accelerator lightly, there will be engine speed noise. I am very sensitive to sound. Can anyone tell me how to solve it? method thanks I thought about selling the car and buying an X7 without M Sport pro Who will save me! ! ! |

A bit louder than the 40i without the M Sport, I just want it to be absolutely quiet, which is unacceptable...especially when accelerating you can feel it |

I will not save you. I have a 2023 x7 40i and it’s quiet as a mouse I have the pro package also. Don’t really hear a difference until I’m in high revs as it opens the flapper in the exhaust. Yes it has engine noise. But at cruising speed it’s dead quiet. No wind noise, engine noise etc and that’s what’s important… to me anyways.
Not as quiet as my 2017 GLS 450. But at 40k miles it threw a rear main seal. So I traded it promptly. Hands down the GLS was the quietest cabin I have ever encountered. However I had three Range Rover sports all had the V8.. Quiet yes but they spent more time at the dealer than in my garage. So it is what it is. |

So I fully understand, as I am currently looking to buy an X7, is there a sound difference between the 2023 X7 40i Luxury versus a 2023 X7 40i M Sport?

There is active debate on how much of a difference it actually makes. Feedback seems 100% aligned it is not anywhere close to as aggressive as something like the m performance exhaust on the m340. But some notice it more than others |

i had the door panels off yesterday and was very surprised to see bmw replaced the usual foam sheet vapor barrier with a sealed, hard plastic door seal thats bolted to the door, gasketed and sound insulated. my suspicion is that that was done for soundproofing. if the OP is that sensitive to engine noise, i dont think there is a fix. he can try to drive a non msport pro car but based on experience i dont think there will be much difference. i'd be curious as to the actual DB he's experiencing under acceleration.

Circling back to this topic... Like the OP, I prefer a quiet cockpit. I personally prefer a more quiet ride, a smoother ride, a more luxurious feeling ride (which likely means Comfort mode with 19" wheels and with DHP for me, although I know DHP is not currently available on the 40i spec). Others prefer a louder, rougher, sportier ride. We all like what we like - no judgements here.
Because I want DHP, I am thinking about buying an M60i instead of the original planned 40i. My challenge is there is not one M60i within 150 miles of Pittsburgh for me to test drive and experience. I am concerned about the noise level. I am trying to understand the quietness/loudness difference between the following X7 configurations: 1) 2023 X7 xDrive40i Luxury 2) 2023 X7 xDrive40i M Sport 3) 2023 X7 xDrive40i M Sport with M Sport Professional Package (website says "The M Sport Exhaust system delivers a full-throated roar that enhances the sportiness of your vehicle." 4) 2023 X7 M60i (which includes the M Sport Exhaust system) From prior messages in this thread and others, I believe #1 and #2 should sounds exactly the same - as their is no different in engine or exhaust. Is that true? Can anyone comment on the sounds difference in Comfort Mode? And in Sport mode - between #2 and #1? From prior messages in this thread and others, I believe #3 might be louder than #1 and #2 - because of the M Sport Exhaust system. Is that true? Can anyone comment on the sounds difference in Comfort Mode? And in Sport mode - between #3 and #1/#2? From prior messages in this thread and others, I believe #4 might be louder than #3 - because of the larger engine. Both have the M Sport Exhaust system, so I am unsure if the exhaust sound/noise is any different. Can anyone comment on the sounds difference in Comfort Mode? and in Sport mode? between #4 versus #3, and #4 versus #1 & #2? If in Comfort Mode, there is little difference between an M60i and the others, I may go ahead with the M60i purchase. If in Comfort Mode the ride is a lot louder, then I may opt for a 40i Luxury and (unfortunately) skip the DHP. I understand noise level is a subjective topic and might vary by person. Having said that, I would love to hear thoughts from any of you with first-hand experience in these vehicles. Thanks very much, in advance! Last edited by lloyd99; 11-27-2022 at 04:12 PM.. |

Get the M60i with B&W, then just keep it in comfort, plus change the setting to reduce the piped in engine sound. You should be good to go.
The B&W turned up will more than take care of any remaining exhaust note that is present. I will say if you get on the throttle in the M60i even in comfort it will be louder than any 40i. So if that’s going to be an issue just go with any of the 40i versions. However you won’t be able to get the B&W. I think it comes with H&K which is still pretty good. |

If quietness is important to you, make sure to test drive the 40i and M60i before making a decision on that. I wasn't able to test drive them back to back, but the M50 (pre LCI) was much louder than the 40i. Car and Driver does noise testing in their reviews and they also found that the X7 M50 was significantly louder than the 40.
The X7 40i wouldn't have worked for me because the options you could get on it were much more limited earlier this year. In hindsight I made a mistake getting the X7 M50; I should have gotten a 750 sedan because this X7 is very loud. I test drove a 750 and used X7 M50 back to back on the highway at one dealership => X7 was much louder. I test drove a 750 and X7 40 back to back on the highway at another dealership => pretty much exact same loudness. I gave the M50 the benefit of the doubt, thought there was perhaps just something wrong with that specific used car which I test drove. But I don't think that's the case. Later (after I bought my M50) I found the Car and Driver test numbers which confirm that the M50 is just a louder vehicle. And if you can compromise on the form factor & budget, the new gen 7 sedan should be a step above the X7 LCI when it comes to quietness. Last edited by PinkNinja400Guy; 11-28-2022 at 04:51 PM.. |
