Any else get PPF on their M5?
I'm getting it done as we speak, just the fronts only (bumper, hood, fenders, radar sensor and mirrors) with Xpel Ultimate Plus. Process takes 2-3 days since they polish to remove my Gyeon MOHS Evo ceramic coat etc...

Nope. I just drive the car & hand wash it when it's dirty.

I'd say prob half or more of this board prob has some form of PPF and/or ceramic coating. I think it usually takes the shops 3-5 days+ depending on what you are getting done and letting things sit/dry.

I highly recommend you get the a-pillars done as well. I got full XPEL Ultimate Plus and ceramic coated from day one.

I have 2018 and I like my car nice but not ultra perfect. I do my own polishing and ceramic coatings. However I have to say that after doing around 3K miles since I've purchased our M5 paint is of horrible quality. It has 20 times more rock chips than our 16 year old Z4. I've done touch ups on hood and bumper and I am seriously considering PPF on front. I had 2016 MB CLS and it's black paint was easy to scratch but I had much fewer rock chips. This BMW paint chips super easily, so if you're super concerned about this get your ppf done.

What is the purpose of ceramic coating if you get a full PPF? Doesn't the full PPF protect the cars paint as long as you get it done right after you buy the car? I'm trying to find out the value of ceramic coating in regards to PPF. Also, I had a detailer tell me the ceramic coating is a waste of money since the silica molecules from the coating are too large to penetrate the clear coat on the car. So, I'm just trying to determine if fellow M5 owners think the ceramic is worth the extra cost. Thanks.

I had asked the same question because XPEL comes with some ceramic coating, but it's not enough to protect the PPF for long periods. |

I was going to do full PPF and ceramic but ended up deciding that close to $10k just wasn't worth it to me.

The purpose of ceramic coating over a PPF is a protective layer that is over the protective layer (PPF) that's over the protective layer (clear coat) of the paint 😉

"$10k just wasn't worth it to me." Same. This is my DD and I lease it (and I'll continue to lease all my DDs). Other cars I own outright, full PPF + ceramic without a doubt. $10,000 over a 36 month lease is $278/month to protect THEIR car. I usually keep mine 30 months, that's $334/month. Don't get me wrong — I keep it nice. Park in the farthest away spots, have it hand washed weekly, waxed monthly, etc. all very meticulously. Full detail every other month and after doing seasonal tire changeover. But nonetheless did decide against both on this car.

I paid $6K for full XPEL and ceramic, there's no way I would of paid $10K. Plus I straight bought my car and didn't lease. This is not my daily and I'm planning on keeping it for a long time.

To me This is when it makes sense. You've purchased a car. Love it. Will keep it for yourself. Going such a long way financially to protect someone else's belonging is interesting to me. Especially since you're not charged for wear and tear.

I paid cash for mine also and I plan to keep it probably 4-5 years but I like to protect my investment and take care of it. It’s cheap insurance even if it was over $2k for the frontal areas
