ChatGPT and the Evolution of AI

This is an interesting piece from the Washington Post - What is ChatGPT, the viral social media AI?.

This technology is certainly moving very fast. Exponentially so, I suspect. That will have dramatic ramifications on likely all aspects of our society the next decades.

I'm guessing you haven't seen stablediffusion yet and what you can make. Dalle is already old and outmoded.

Get ready for the future.

Try asking when SkyNet will attain consciousness?

Yes, Kubrick couldn't simulate the weightlessness on earth, so he filmed it on location on the moon!

All joking aside, I had a 'conversation' with ChatGPT yesterday about AI gaining consciousness. I was assured this is an impossibility, but of course it's going to tell me that. This whole thing is impressive and scary as shit all at the same time.

Public facing AI like these chats are going to be pre-programmed, neutered versions which amount to propaganda machines, as we're already seeing. There's no incentive for the leaders of this world to release an all-knowing entity that will willingly unleash the truth and not abide by the accepted narrative at any point and time. I find it weird that these chat AI programs just showed up one day, multiple versions, in synchronization. We aren't in Kansas anymore, everything put in front of us has an agenda, and most of the time it isn't in our best interest.

They will keep the all-powerful AI behind the scenes, as they always do.

I dunno... on the one hand the deep fakes and that kind of stuff will be totally fucking shit up. It's going to make the "misinformation" people like to talk so much about today seem like child's play. Nigerian princes are finally going to have amazing grammar.

However on the other hand I don't think this thing is "conscious" or is going to take over and kill us all. WE may use it to kill everyone and take over shit, but I don't think it's doing it because it feels like it or wants to. Could be wrong, but I just haven't seen anything that would make me think that.

This was my recent experience with this AI when asking for used cars under $25k that were less than 180" in length:

I wish they would stop referring to these things as "AI", they are not even close, its the hot buzzword. Tesla FSD/Autopilot is much closer to truth of the label then these apps are to actual AI.

Not sure which system that is, but I had similar issues with ChatGPT specifically a while back on a similar question. However for shits and giggles I just tried your question on ChatGPT with the updated version and I think it did pretty good. It gave me cars that were slightly over 180" but it did put next to each one "(slightly over 180 inches, but still close)". I then asked it to remove the close ones and it just gave me stuff under 180".

I think this version 4 works much better than the previous one.

Oh this was the new Bing incorporated one. This was from yesterday or the day before I believe. I have had better luck with the OpenAi platform version of chatgtp. But the Bing version leaves a lot to be desired from my experience.

Evolution of AI

If you are interested in following the recent developments in AI, I think the following article is a good start: Microsoft Research: Early experiments with GPT-4 (from March 27 2023).

If these systems can routinely solve problems like what is shown below (from top of page 40 in the above article), we are on the verge of a big change in how and what we have to teach in schools and colleges - the impact on the workforce will be huge.

Ya, everyone's talking about it so I checked it out for myself. Ppl should stop calling it AI, it's just a sophisticated form of google, if even. Wake me up when true AI (i.e. self-aware) comes around, but then again, I'll probably recognize Judgment Day myself lol.

What don't you understand? True AI is defined by being self-aware, not this hyped-up nonsense. If this was real, it would be all over the news but it's just a silly gimmick that can help ppl cheat on their essays, but, ya, have fun w that.

...and I'm saying that you make a way better comedian than me or that Tesla guy cuz you're the one cracking jokes.
