2023 X7 M60i Possible Engine and/or Transmission Issue

Hello to All,

Curious if anyone has had a similar situation. Car is about 45 days old. Car has about 2,000 miles on it.

Started to shake really hard - felt like some of the cylinders were not working
Transmission Changes gears extremely harsh and abrupt
Throttle input is not one to one - car does what it wants

This created a very unsafe and dangerous situation
If my wife was driving an accident could have happened 100%

Here is a video I made. Not sure how much is going to be visible from the video
I have had 2 previous X7s with little to no issues so this is very disappointing.

Sounds like it’s in limp mode. Also sounds like it has a bad coil pack or two. So it’s down a cylinder or two.

Another user with a 60i had the same issue recently.

Although this issue is not totally partial to the 60i’s it’s happening on the 40’s also.
The coil packs have changed recently. Sounds like there is an issue with them. But the dealer will tell you for sure.

Sucks but at least it’s drivable and didn’t leave you stranded.

As I said in another post, dealer demo vehicles that already have 2K miles on them should be selling at a premium.

Update:

SAV is still at the dealers service department
SAV has been at the dealer since Dec 5, 2022 - exactly 7 days
Still no resolution or any updates as to what the issue could be…

I agree 100%. I did that before with another brand, and my only regret was the amount of car-wash minor scratched in the paint (so I had to do a two stage paint correction but still not as good as fixing fresh factory paint).
For the LCI, I think it is 100% worth it to go that route given the number of issues buyers are seeing, if I have to buy the launch year model. I doubt though that there are any 23 demo X7s...

Update:

12/22/22 - came back to the dealer to pick up the SAV

As I started to drive away from the dealer - immediately the car started to rock back and forth and the RPM REV counter went up and down on its own.

Very Very dangerous. If you try to apply the break to stop the car still surges forward so you have to apply the break hard and rapid.

It’s an accident waiting to happen. Very disappointed so far.

Brought the SAV right back around to the dealer.

Been at the dealer since 12/5/22 so far.

Here is a video I made from today.

Wow! That’s insane!! Sorry man… What did they say the problem was originally?

Apparently they didn’t road test it for any length of time/mileage…

I originally left the car with the
Service Dept on 12/5/2022 with 2,270 miles

When I recorded this video today 12/22/22 - it had 2,283 miles

Oh so I guess they did test drive it a little bit. What did they say the issue was originally? Like when you first brought it in?

They could not replicate the issue
They thought it was programming

So did they keep it or give it back to you?

Hate it when dealers say this. You have to really push them. If it’s not a code or 100% visible or noticeable issue they move on. Never worked at a dealer shop, but is this driven by maybe them not getting paid or covered to do diagnostic work and only covered by what the manufacturer states what needs to be fixed and how many hours it takes.

I know warranty work isn’t lucrative for dealers…at least from what I’ve read.

Wife hit a curb once in a previous vehicle of ours. Had to replace the wheel, lower control arm, and all four tires. Put our winters on since it was time.
I kept feeling a vibration in the wheel after the repair was done. Took it back and dealer said it was the tires tread wear causing the issue. Discount tire said tires were perfect…they only had 5,000 miles.

Hit google up, found out it was probably the wheel bearing. Forced the dealer to change the bearing…issue was fixed.

So keep pushing on dealer to diagnose and fix….log the days….lemon the thing if they can’t resolve.

They kept it. It’s been there basically since 12/5/2022

About 5 days ago I was told by the Service department that they figured out the issue

They said it is the - Low Fuel Pressure Pump

Guess what ? Today I was told that after replacing it the issue is still there….

Getting extremely frustrated at this point. It’s going to be 30 consecutive days at the service department soon with no resolution on site.

I don’t feel safe taking this vehicle back at this point.

Hopefully BMW Corporate brings this issue to a resolution sooner rather then later.

dencoop What is the current status of your vehicle? I am dealing with a shitty and possibly shady dealer myself.

I am the OP of this https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1974028
