recall for 2023 x7
Did anyone bring their 2023 x7 to the dealer for the new recall? I took my car to the dealer on Tuesday, December 6th for the front light recall. The car has been at the shop since and it's been a week now and they keep telling me they are having problems to upload the new software every time they upload it and it keeps on failing. How many of you are having the same issue. It is mind boggling for BMW engineers are not able to solve the issue. They can't even tell me how long they will keep my car.

It must be because I keep getting the same talk from the the advisor" waiting to hear from the engineer to know what the next step will be....I really don't know what my next step should be...hope that I didn't buy a lemon.

After the car spent a week at dealer due the recall ....they still couldn't get it....the software failed....now they informed me that they need to change the rack and pinion. The parts will take at least a month to come from Germany. I am so pissed right now; for a 2023 X7 to have such issues. I don't know when I am getting my car back. The car didn't have any issues when I brought it to the dealer for the recall.

Soooooo… you take your car in for a headlight recall and now it needs a rack and pinion? Did they say it was leaking? Wonder why they want to change it.
What’s the deal here? On a separate note you could be talking about a buy back/lemon or trade assist if it’s out of service for certain number of days (according to your state guidelines) Last edited by Ace6180G07; 12-15-2022 at 06:06 AM.. |

This should be a great reminder to not buy a first year model but somebody’s gotta do it, so thank you all for taking the risk and hopefully the following year will be much better

Looks like it has a sensor on the steering input shaft that counts the rotation and position and then sends the command to the electric motor that moves the rack. I guess there could be a module in there. From the image it just looks like there is 1. Power input for the electric motor 2. Sensor Input from the input shaft to the motor via short cable. 3. An additional plug that I assume goes back to the main computer (ID8) so it knows what position the wheels are. Maybe this cable is used also when a flash is involved to update it?? Anyways this sucks regardless. Very unfortunate. Last edited by Ace6180G07; 12-17-2022 at 04:15 AM.. |

Yes the steering rack is electric...They claimed after failing so many times the data came back, after the assessment the engineer said the steering rack needs to be changed in order to resolve the issues. Yes Ace6180G07 you explained it well....that was what the service manager said but I still have my doubts...Now they put me on a 2023 GMC Acadia...I asked them for an SUV but I was told that they don't have SUVs as loaners. They put me on a rental.....Unbelievable ....the service is subpar at best..I didn't expect that from BMW....I owned 3 Lexus, 1Mercedes SUVs never had any problems..my first BMW and it turned to be a sour taste within a month of owning the vehicle....

Sorry to hear that. As someone mentioned earlier, it’s always a roll of the dice purchasing any new model or revision (LCI) of an existing model within the first year. Don’t write off the brand just yet though as I have always had solid BMWs over the years but then again I never buy 1st years in any brand. Hopefully your fix is gonna be quick and effective.

I can't believe this...it's been more than a month and I am still waiting for the part. I spoke to the dealer and I was informed it can take 3 to 4 months to get the part from Germany. It's unacceptable to have a brand new car having issues not even 2 months of ownership.
