Did you get 2 sets of "fronts" or the full package that's a set of front wheels and rear wheels?

I have the same set up for my 23 X3M. No snow yet, but they should be good.

I meant for your winter set...the OEM snow setup (full set) has different wheel specs front and rear even though the tires are square. Or at least they did when I got them, not sure if anything changed.

I have the same exact winter setup.
Even though the tires are the same size, the rims have different ETs.

9J×20 ET28 - rear
9.5J×20 ET39 - front
I think the bigger J and ET goes to the front side (as mentioned above) to have room for the brake calipers.
If they will be installed incorrectly, you will notice a sound when slightly moving the car forward/ backward.

The 20x9 ET28 go on the front and the 20x9.5 ET39 go on the rear. IF you try to put the 20x9.5s on the front they will hit the front strut (even though you can actually bolt the wheels on).

This setup is annoying because you cannot swap front/rear to help balance wear. Thus 2 sets of "fronts"...since the fronts work just fine on the back and then you can swap between front and rear each season without needed to unmount and remount the tires (or just not rotate and live with the lower tire life).

that's exactly what I have for the winter setup... four 764M "front" wheels so I can rotate every season.

that being said, I feel like the Pirelli tires are mediocre at best. they didn't perform as well as I thought last year in packed snow/ice. hell, my F80 with Blizzaks felt more confident in the snow than this car. fortunately I haven't had to deal with any of that this winter considering how mild it's been. fingers crossed it stays this way.

Agreed, although I think the tires are balance and more performance-oriented than it is for snow. Agreed blizzaks are way better, but lateral grip is crap and dry performance felt like I was rolling around on sponges

Haha both of these statements is what landed me with Michelin PA4 N Spec. Pirelli were meh, Blizzak are excellent in deep snow but below average on dry pavement. The PA4 fall right in-between the two. The Vredstein Wintrac Pro are very very good for the price too. I would damn near say on par with the Michelin

Agreed. I did a review on these a couple years back and found they had meh snow performance as well. Still drivable, but nothing like a true snow tire. I slid around and had anti lock kick in on a few inches of slush.

That said, if you get infrequent snow and are more on dry or wet pavement they work well…up until about 120mph on recommended pressure. Mr Italy said they perform better at higher speeds if you go to 50 Psi.

I live in NJ so the winter setup is only on for 4 months

I ran blizzak on my f80 and it last me 3 yrs. So hope to sell this winter set when my lease is over.

But the scorpions are hands down the best so far.

Have these on my wife’s x3. One of the best all around performance snow tires IMO.

Pirellis are "central europe" style winter tyres, that means they prioritize cold dry and wet performance more than snow and ice. Michelin X-Ice Snow or Nokian Hakkapeliitta are the ones to go for if you want best snow and ice results. And especially on ice there is a big difference between the very mediocre Pirellis and the ,more than usable, friction Michelin and Nokian ones.

I feel the Pirelli's are perfect for this car, especially if you are tuned. I have Hakkas and x-ice tires on other vehicles, but they also have a lot less horsepower and the focus is on maximizing snow and ice traction. At least in the NYC area, we are on ice and snow maybe 5% of the time, so having something more performance-oriented and not having the car corner like shit for 4 months out of the year is welcome to me.

Now if I lived in Buffalo, or Sweden, I would probably have a different opinion.

true. im in nyc so I really shouldn't be complaining. daily driving its totally fine and in fact pretty comfortable too. its just those rare 5% occurrences when it does snow that they don't perform as well as I'd like.
