X1 Head Up Display

For anyone with a new X1, how is the head up display? I’m curious about readability and customization. Would like it if you could limit the amount of info displayed to the bare essentials like speed when that’s all you want, or include turn by turn navigation when needed. What other info is displayed? I don’t need something that becomes so distracting I eventually turn it off.

All I could find was this:

Honestly, those "sport" and "eco" details on the HUD are annoying and ugly. When I test drove the vehicle, those are the only changes I noted but didn't play with the settings. I also only want bare essentials on there, so I'll repost after I pick up the vehicle this Saturday!

In comfort mode mine just displays the speed limit and my current speed, unless I’m using cruise control or nav. It will briefly show the song title when I skip tracks, show who’s calling, or show an alert if there is a traffic light cam or if the vehicle in front is too close, but those are all temporary. I believe you can also change the settings in iDrive so that these notifications don’t show in the HUD and only in the cluster.

Great info! Based on the video above it appears the display is quite bright on sunny days. Does the display automatically adjust brightness for night time driving or is that a manual setting?

Hopefully soon I’ll be able to actually take the car out and do a proper detailed photoshoot like I planned. Parents both got Covid, so I’ve been helping my youngest sister out watching my toddler nephew 9 hours a day. My god I’m tired!

I once had a 5 Series loaner with HUD, and the content and positioning were definitely adjustable. Same with my wife's Hyundai.

While I can't say definitively, I have no doubt the HUD in the X1 is somewhat customizable.

Dinner and they built me a remote controlled droid at Disneyland last week. I’d still do it anyway, I love my nephew. He’s just a handful sometimes lol.

It’s not bad, but it’s step down from the previous BMW HUDs I’ve had. The display is a little more cluttered IMO with that new half hexagon outline on it. But it gives speed, speed limit, directions if using internal nav or Apple Maps, and song/notifications when the right side steering roll knob is actuated.

Normal range of up/down & brightness adjust other BMW HUDs have

Given how digital this car is, maybe BMW (or aftermarket) will one day have more options on what/how it displays (and also on the dash tach/speedo, but instead we currently have MyModes trash like the digital art one)
