Harmon Kardon EQ Settings

Hi all - after a long time lurking on this board, I finally picked up my 2022 X3MC in Brooklyn grey on Friday. Amazing machine, and it complements the family X7 we already had very nicely. Insane machine!

I’ve searched but haven’t found any threads over here - has anyone found an equalizer setting for the HK system that they love? There is a long thread in the X7 forum in it, and the settings there really help the system sound tremendously better. Unfortunately, those settings don’t help as much with the X3 HK system. I’m going to experiment more this week and share my results. I would love anyone else’s input if they have it!

In on advice for this too. In my other BMWs, I have disconnected or removed the center channel speaker. I found it made audio muddy and reduced stereo separation.

Congratulations on your X3MC, and welcome to the F97/98 Forum.

An advanced search using terms 'Harmon Kardon' and 'EQ' in this and the G01 Forum yielded quite a few hits with some recs which might at least get you started with your settings:

Try this Spotify playlist when adjusting your settings. This list was created by Harman and contains the songs they use to tune the automotive audio systems. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4f...c807769ca4458a

After some research and playing around with different EQ settings, this is my favorite so far, as laid out in the following article:

https://totallyev.net/bmw-ix3-audio-...harman-kardon/

"
Logic 7 Surround: On
Surround: -1
Treble*: +6
Bass*: +1
Balance & Fader: Centre
100 Hz: +2
200 Hz: +2
500 Hz: +1
1 kHz: +0
2 kHz: +2
5 kHz: +2
10 kHz: +3
*The Treble and Bass settings adjust the appropriate frequency bands, while the 7-band equaliser provides the ability to tinker with the independent frequencies. For example, the three notches added to the 10 kHz band compound with the six additions added onto the Treble EQ, resulting in a nine-step increase.

I turned on the Bowers & Wilkins sound setting via bimmer code. The change very noticeable. Not sure why the sound was turned down on the x3m or at least on my 2021. It's like I installed a new sound system.

Do you know if this works on the 2022? I can’t find the option on bimmer code with my 22.

Here is my settings. I am still fidgeting a little with it to add some additional mid range tones but sounds pretty good to my non- audiophile ears. (And yes, I haven’t removed the factory screen plastic yet )

What I’ve done as a quick fix is pull the fader slightly back from the middle. I’m playing with the equalizer still.
