Tire Wear Warnings (ID8/BMW App)

So this warning started coming up when I hit 18k miles, and it’s really annoying as I can’t find a way to get rid of it on my app. Dealer says there’s “no way” for them to reset it remotely.

I currently have 3 sets of wheels/tires on the car and I definitely do not have any issues with tire wear.

Can anybody help?

Yep, I have the exact same issue.

My rear tires do have only 2/32 left, so I’m scheduling an appointment to replace all four.

My dealer says once the service is completed, BMW will know based on shared records and reset it in the background.

Does the error show on the car? What happens if you reset within idrive? You should also be able to update tire size in idrive.

It keeps on saying tire change detected, and I reset it a couple times but the warning is still there. I use all non-standard sizes for my daily (285/45R22) and winter (275/55R20) setups so iDrive clearly won’t give me any of those options. I just pick that “other” option.

Guess I have to go to the dealer to reset it. I never buy tires from the dealer.

That’s interesting because my winter tires are definitely not standard size and probably around 2.5% smaller, so I wonder how it determines this. If it were just straight up rotation I figure my winter tires would have the same issue.

I would think it would take the circumference measurement stored after a TPMS reset and go from there. Maybe the pressures have gone down enough to change how they roll but still within spec?

No, the pressures are generally the same (40F/47R) for both my winters and my daily’s, with 275/55R20 and 285/45R22. I think the warnings are strictly based on mileage, as I’m using aftermarket tires without the “chip” that BMW OEM tires have so that the automatic detection works. I constantly reset the TPMS after tire swaps but the warning is still there.

Just did a 4 day swap to the winters and back for a trip to SLC from LA (1800 miles) last weekend and it’s still there. Guess I will wait 90 days, or whenever the airbag recall fix + 03/2023 update happens. Thanks guys!
