Grille material/design
I don’t mind the size, but have you ever wondered why BMW chose the painted material for the grille? Would you have preferred the same design and material as the i4 or i7 so it has some 3D/depth to it? Sensors alone were not the reason as i7 has the same/if not more sensors, and I assume i4 has them, too behind the grille.

Somone on one of the iX forums actually got their grille wrapped in black. Looks pretty awesome, I might do the same.

That’s more of a tint than a wrap, right?
I considered wrapping mine back in October but ultimately I decided it would probably not hold up. It’s a good idea though, may just need some maintenance occasionally. I think it would look good at least. |

I wrapped my grill in a tinted film. I originally tried a couple of different matrix vinyl films that had really cool patterns but the films were matte and it didn’t look very good. I then did it with a dark smoke film and because there was no light behind it, it just looked like straight gloss black. I didn’t like it very much. The grill is so big and unless you have a black car, it makes it even more of a focal point being a solid color. I ended up going with a medium smoke and so far I like it. It tones down the pattern a lot but still shows it to give it some dimension. First 2 pictures are the films I tried. 3rd is what I went with

Thx for sharing. My car is black with bronze trim so I might try it. I have PPF on the whole car, including the grille now, so I’d have to remove the grille film first. What I like about the one I have is that it’s self healing and hydrophobic, which on a black car is a must in my view. Do you mind sharing what brand and spec film you used?
Thank you! |

I’m looking for a detailer as we speak to tint that frontgrill … I have a black one, saw a picture of a black one done in Sweden, changes the car completely. (This plus lowering the suspension and the 15mm spacers makes it really badass, but probably voids warranty, so I will skip it for now) |
