Exclamation PROcede Beta v3.2

Now with v3.1 no longer in beta form, we're on to v3.2. With these maps, we've made the following changes:

1) Contoured the ignition map during cruise and light load conditions. Basically, I filled in the dips in the ignition timing table that were concessions made for emissions compliance.
2) Targeted a slightly leaner AFR during cruise conditions
3) Advanced (yes, advanced) the timing at idle by 4-5 degrees.

Upsides:
15-25lb-ft more torque in the low-to-midrange in off-boost conditions. This means that the transition from off boost to on-boost is all but unnoticeable as the torque "hole" at around 0-2psi of boost is now gone. During normal off-boost driving, the engine will provide more torque, better response and rev more freely when rev matching. Idle will also be more stable with more torque available as the clutch is released (no more having to blip the throttle to take off). And fuel economy should improve by another 2-3 mpg all things equal. Will cruise happily with less applied throttle as well.

Downsides:
None so far as tested on our cars. But as always, we want to release this map to a handful of beta testers first before posting them up. If you are interested, email me at shiv@vishnutuning.com. Just include what stage/dd or nonDD/6mt or 6at you need so I can email you the right file. It will use the same firmware (#55) as the current maps so no need to update.

Cheers,
shiv

Because advancing timing involves shifting the CAS signal in the other direction. Which involves predictive logic since we are replicating teeth that haven't even been read by the sensor yet. It's a first as far as n54 applications go.

Shiv
i believe it was marvelphx that brought up the fact that a whole slew of engine control parameters rely on an accurate cps signal in order to function properly - ie, vanos control, shift logic, etc....

i'm sorry if i missed your rebuttal - but what are your comments regarding this issue?

IIRC, he brought up a lot of generalities. But nothing specific. Hard to rebut generalities. But i'll try. In the crank offset ranges we are talking about (+/- 5 deg) the effects it has on vanos are hardly measurable on a dyno. And in theory, they should actually help, not hurt the tune. Not sure how shift logic is adversely effected. Or AC performance as mentioned earlier as well. As for misfire detection, you'd have to offset the crank signal over 25 deg for it to notice. It looks at successive power strokes, not successive trigger wheel teeth (58 per revolution!).
