Your coolant level is low. There is a manual available on this forum for download.

looks like radiator fluid to me. Check the manual, but if it is you can do it yourself if you know what you're doing. Do NOT attempt it on a warm engine. A friend of mine got 3rd degree burns from opening the radiator cap on his truck and the steam coming out burned the sh** out of his hand.

Basically make sure you know what you're doing (both in terms of coolant you use, getting a perfect 50/50 water dilution, and the actual replacement).

Newer cars use specific coolants. Not the typical green stuff you find at Autozone.

You guys are crazy. That's your exhaust fluid meter. You need to add distilled water through the back of your tail pipe.

Bro..I went through this exact same thing last month.

Go to your nearest BMW dealer. Pick up some BMW brand coolant. Go to the supermarket, buy some distilled water. Mix the coolant and distilled water at a 50:50 ratio (use a measuring cup to be precise). Mix the solution. Pour it into the reservoir until the needle starts to bob about an inch out of the reservoir. You're done.

Don't use a different type of coolant. And unless you live in Alaska and its -20 degrees, just top it off with distilled water and you will be good. Remember, too much coolant will actually dissapate LESS heat. FYI: many race cars use little or no coolant at all.

IMO, yes, use the BMW brand coolant, but mix the proper ratio. The coolant has a much lower freezing point than water, AND doesn't boil nearly as readily as water. But it has lower heat dissipating properties, as compared to water. Still, stick with the 50:50 and you won't go wrong.
