Exclamation locked out

greetings,
a worrying incident happened yesterday which I would like to warn you all.
I normally use my cell phone to open the car...
yesterday went hiking so took my car key as well, just in case.
upon my return the car opened the trunk (cell phone recognised).
It was hot, so i used the key to open up all windows while changing my shoes sitting on the bumper of the trunk.
I closed the trunk and suddenly all the doors locked as well with my key in the trunk (no i did not use the function of locking the trunk... just the button on the left - close).
I had my cell phone on me so i did not worry...
unfortunately the cell phone refused to open the car !!!

here i was locked out. I tried everything.. walking away, touching the door handle - nothing !!
I eventually put my hand inside and opened the drivers door (remeber my windows were open)
The alarm went off.. it asked for my code.
then once entered all was ok.

What if my windows were closed ???
I am under the impression that the software is still very early in development and has bugs.
beware everyone... things like this would leave you stranded !

It has actually happened to me twice already. I just thought that i pressed the wrong button.(lock, instead of the trunk closing button) However, I was pretty sure that I didn't press the wrong one. Fortunately, I was in my garage both times, so I just grabbed the key fob and opened it.(key fob hanging in the closet next to the garage door)

I plan to take one of the mechanical keys from the key fob and hide it using strong duct tape behind the rear bumper.(which I've done for all of my other cars over the years, very handy when accidentally locking myself out of the car)

You say it asked you for your code, I can never remember me putting a code in the car for the alarm! Where did you initially enter your code?

right in the beginning, setting up my car, I had to choose a 4 digit safety code (maybe an option only if an alarm is present ?)

Could you not have opened the car from the app?

You set the pin on initial setup see attached. If you want to set it up delete your profile and re enter.

My previous car was a BMW so I must have set the PIN code years ago. I have an alarm in this car. Fully loaded this build.

This is disconcerting. is it normal behaviour for BMW? I think all the cars I've owned won't let the doors lock if it recognizes a keyfob left in the car.

I use digital key primarily but carry the fob on days I know I’ll have to valet the car, and also have it set to lock the car when I walk away. The valet left my fob on the seat while I was walking away to greet a client, and it locked the car on him while he was moving another car forward to make space for mine up front. Luckily I was still in the lobby and was able to unlock the car for him. I also am able to lock the fob in the car and walk away since I keep it with my work gear. Same with my phone as long as I still have my Apple Watch on.
