Blank Screen

A new (temporary?) issue. Started the M60 this afternoon and the main screen was blank. As in, completely blank (black). Instrument cluster worked fine, car drove fine, appropriate popups in the IC. Rebooted a couple of times (including diagnostic reboot) - actually hard to tell, because no feedback from the main screen (media just stopped playing after the 30 or so seconds). No luck. Leave, lock car, unlock car, restart several times, no luck. Wait about 30 minutes, retry. Voila! Everything back to normal. First time, so we shall see, and have actually had it happen in ID7 (one time a TCU replacement). Standing by....

Wow! I have not had this happen in our '22 or '23 iX, but this was common in our last M6! Keep us posted.

I am still thinking about my High Voltage & Drivetrain warnings from yesterday. They have not come back, Check messages still clear. Fluke or will happen again?

I've had the dreaded black screen/white BMW logo that wouldn't go away on the main screen, in other cars, and once completely black in an X5 (the TCU), but a first for the iX. My suspicion is that the complexity of the software lends itself to just shutting down when it gets confused, or an update puts a 1 where a 0 should be (several map updates lately), and the car needs a sleep cycle to default back to normal ops, but we shall see. The instrument cluster should be bulletproof, which it was, but the main display gets its signals from everywhere I would bet, and anything from a weather display, to nav info, to media gremlins could cause it to hiccup (and there is a "screen off" software mode), but hoping maybe there's a "failsafe" back to the beginning of the breadcrumbs if anything really goes south, and likely a sleep cycle and self-check initiates that. Time will tell....

This happened to me one time over the weekend. It eventually came back on its own.

This has happened to me twice in the past 2 weeks. Nothing will reset it except leaving it locked going back 30 minutes to an hour later.

This just happened to me.

The sudden occurrence for more than just one of us makes me think there's something that has been pushed.

Not in my case. I haven’t received one single OTA update since taking delivery of my vehicle in January. I’m still stuck on 11/2022.44 and this has happened to me once. I think the headunit just runs out of memory which explains why an iDrive reboot fixes eSIM and CarPlay every single time. Not sure about the brand new headunits, but all of the current ones are definitely underpowered.

Happened to me when I left for work one morning. About 10 minutes later it came back on.

I haven’t got a single remote software upgrade pushed to me from new. My ride came with 11/2022.64 when I got the keys 6 weeks ago. I did had a screen blackout ONCE but it reseted itself after going dark. I didn't do anything. I figured it ran out of ram space. Didn't occur again thankfully.

Welp, I’ve got the black/blank passenger side iDrive screen now. Have done a few soft resets…got it in diagnostics mode and still nothing. Just got back home and parked and plugged it in—hoping the leave it alone for 30 min method works.

From other threads, a reboot and a rest generally fixes it. Seems like the head unit just needs some sort of self "reset".... Also didn't mention your OS version or car model, which might make a difference....

Black screen

Black screen

It's the same for me after the last update. Both screens turn off while driving. The screen turns off completely. It only leaves speed. After about 15 seconds it starts automatically. Strange.

I had this exact thing happen several days ago in my 24 iX 50. First time and has been fine since.

There is a gesture control that turns off the touch screen. If you have gesture controls enabled it's possible that you inadvertently made a hand movement that turned it off. Touching the screen wakes it back up.
