Carrington Event - Scary stuff
So I just learned about this yesterday. On Sept 1st and 2nd 1859, our Sun hit the Earth with a Massive Solar Flare that caused Telegraph stations to burst into flames.
If this were to happen to us today, it would literally throw us back 200 years. Every Satellite would be destroyed, Global Power outages, etc. They equate it to a Nuclear War, where Humans would start killing each other in less than 2 weeks trying to survive as food expires and turns us into savages. Pretty scary stuff considering it's happened once before. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrington_Event

Interesting and concerning stuff. Throw in the war going over in Ukraine where if someone makes the wrong move and nukes start flying, things could get very dicey very quickly. What's that saying, 7 meals from chaos or something like that?
Anyway, try not to dwell too much on that, I tend to think that we create our own universe so try to go w that.

I'm not wasting my time worrying about a massive solar flare, since it would surely blow out the pacemaker that's 100% driving my heart and leave me dead before I even knew what happened.....

I think you kind of overdramatized the solar flare effects (or read something that did). It's not a death ray, it is a surge of what is essentially static electricity. Back then they thought a wooden donut was an adequate insulator, and fire-safety wasn't invented yet, so when sparks flew they caused some fires.
Granted that the sudden loss of internet/electronics nowadays would probably result in some kind of mass event, but I think it will look more like Sean of the Dead, not Apocalypse Now. Hordes of milennials trying to discover what else you can do that doesn't use a smartphone (and no YouTube to show you how to do it - talk about a hellscape). |

We had a close call with a similar CME in 2012. It missed us by nine days. Altho catastrophic to the electronic infrastructure in terms of cost and time US recovery is believed to have been from four to ten years.

When I was younger this sort of thing used to bother me, but as I age I'm like, I've had a great life, did most if not all the things I really wanted to do (3 girls at one time?), so I'm good with everything going to shit.
I also have plenty of supplies, guns and ammo. I do believe in humanity though, I mean, I know it's terrible at its core, but I think that the whole doomsday scenario has been around long enough that there are more people prepared than what you might think. |

You can add asteroids, volcanos, and viruses to that list, but the most likely scenario is cancer, your heart, or a car crash will kill you at some point after 60.

I hope to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather...
...and not screaming in terror like all of the other passengers in his car!
