25e vs 30e - help needed

Currently looking at a hybrid X1 as a second car, the battery will cover 80% of the cars journeys and the petrol engine will support the occasional longer distance run. I’ve read all the stats etc. around the 25e and 30e and as far as I can tell it’s a slight increase in both electric and engine horsepower but no difference in torque or range… I’m really interested in people’s real world experience of driving either or ideally both of these hybrids to help make the decision.

In the UK there’s around £2.5k (from memory) in price so it’s not a deal breaker either way but if there’s little gain in the 30e then that’s money in my bank not BMWs!

We should get our 25e soon so can’t comment on the performance. The wife went for the 25e over the 30e and she just doesn’t use all the performance in her 20d so it was pointless spending more for her.

The 30e has a bit more push on the motor and engine, if you want the best possible performance go for that, if you aren’t one to fly around with the busy roads we have now, I suspect the 25e will be plenty.

I have the 30e and that is 326ps compared to the 25e that is 245ps. I have today just done a 150 mile round trip and and the average mpg is showing 67.3 which taking into account the electric used as well as the fuel I think is pretty good. I haven’t driven a 25e so can’t comment on that but officially it is supposed to do 52-54 compared to 50-52 on the 30e. I have just charged mine and it is showing 58 electric only miles.

I was asking myself your same question when ordering our X1. In the end, we went for the 25e. When going for an hybrid, me and my wife decided that our priority was range and fuel economy over performance, and save the extra cost of the 30e.
They will deliver to us the car next Thursday, I can share my thoughts after the weekend, we have planned a trip of about 1.200 km. I can compare the push of the 25e with my 440i, which I drive daily (for what is comparable...).
Let me know if you want me to test anything in particular.

If in doubt buy the 30e. No regrets I'm sure if you do.

It would be completely waisted on the wife, not me but for her just no need. I've got a X3 M40 to play with so can get the performance out of that so was no point in pushing her to get a quicker car.

She would rather have more toys and options than anything faster, she barely goes over the speed limit today so getting to it faster for her, nah not for everyone.

Thanks for the replies, all really useful. I’ve just traded my X3 M40i for a G80 M3 Comp so I’m not lacking for a performance option and given the X1 will be the school run / wife’s car I think I’m leaning towards the 25e and possibly put the 2.5k towards options…

As I type that I know we’ll come out of the dealership with a 30e 😂

Let me ask "What is the question here"

I think its a ritoric questions if 30e or 25e...honestly the 30e boosts like crazy(lets not put the 6cyl beasts here ) so 30e all the way..
If that was with 4 cyl and with that power - it would have been peerfect.

Thanks for everyone’s help in this thread. We went in to order a 25e but the dealer had a 30e with exactly the spec we wanted in stock so went with that as the deal was better than a new one.

Wife picked it up today, I’m pretty impressed so far and very jealous I can’t have the UWB digital key on my G80!

Congrats on your new ride and on finding it in stock with your specs!

UWB makes things a lot easier (and quicker) than the older digital key.

Where is the question
Really - is someone thinking that 25e is about consumption benefits - its about money for bmw..
Where is the problem of having 300+ ps..because the wife blah blah so 250ps is not much as well?
If its not about money then there is no question - its not like X3 3.0i and m40i then its another story but with the phev…if you dont commute more than 60kms a day - the “saving” is the last priority.
Having 30e for almost 9months and 23 000kms i drive it 90% in chill mode 5% in sport and the rest is because of some idiots i have to overtake
