Potential G45 X3 models lineup and details so far

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Potential G45 X3 lineup:

G45 X3
  • In production 08/24-10/33
  • This is the traditional X3 with gas, diesel, and hybrid versions. The full EV role is going to the Neue Klasse. There will still be X3M (G97).
  • Potential model names: X3 20, X3 20 xDrive, X3 20d xDrive, X3 30 xDrive, X3 30e xDrive, X3 40d xDrive, X3 M50 xDrive.
  • Intro models: Worldwide 30ex, M50x, and two of the non-M gas or diesel (tbd); US 30x and M50x.
  • No new engines, making a step up in luxury (standard comfort access, optional Iconic Glow exterior like on the next 5 series, fancier interior materials, driver aids matching the current X5 - also means no L3 autonomy, the best audio is still HK, ID8 dash).
  • M50x specifics: standard M Sport suspension (adaptive optional), standard Iconic Glow, 20" wheels, and the usual M interior and exterior parts.

Will be available with all types of drivetrains but will focus on electric motors and hybrids. There will still be X3M (G97).
Potential model names: X3 20, X3 20 xDrive, X3 20d xDrive, X3 30 xDrive, X3 30e xDrive, X3 40d xDrive, X3 M50 xDrive, X3 M50e xDrive.
  • Note the drop of "i" from the gas models' names and the overall rearrangement of designations.
  • Two US gas models to start (likely 30 xDrive and M50 xDrive), no new engines, making a step up in luxury (standard comfort access, Iconic Glow exterior like on the next 5 series, fancier interior materials, driver aids matching the current X5 - also means no L3 autonomy, the best audio is still HK, ID8 dash), M50x also has standard M Sport suspension (adaptive optional), different wheels, and the usual M interior and exterior parts.
Can’t wait for more details on this!

A 9 year production cycle? Will there be two LCIs during this time? Seems like a long production cycle to only have one LCI and ensure it remains fresh within the market segment.

Having owned an X3 M40i prior to my M3, I would definitely look to potentially go back to an X3 M50 or an X3M as my next vehicle. Looking forward to seeing the full reveal.

Why would they stop making them? One of the best engines made and it has had multiple significant updates since v1 came out

Agreed. Loved the B58 in my G01 and it has only gotten better since then. So long as they keep being able to squeak more out of it and maintain its reliability I don’t see why they shouldn’t keep rolling with it.

hopefully there really is a step-up in materials + build quality. im enjoying my F97 but the interior (although perfectly functional) leaves a lot to be desired in the "luxury/quality" department.

can't wait to see what the G97 powertrain will be like...

BMW has no newer 6 cylinder ICE engine coming... the only thing would be a slightly different variant of a B58 or a B58 paired with a hybrid.

That would then make it 18 years... I just want to make it clear that is identical to folks buying new N54s next year lmao...

I am seeing some unconfirmed signals that it could be even longer - 15 years. And if you take into account the likely fact that G45 is the last X3 with ICE, that might actually make sense.

Is there any chance that the X3 M50 will be fitted with a S58 (detuned or variant etc.)?

How long do you think after the SOP of the M50 will we see the G97?

Looking forward to this!

I just ordered ‘23 X3 M40i, should be delivered within the next 2-3 weeks.

Now I’m thinking whether it’s worth waiting for the ‘24, specially if the interior fit and finish and luxury gets better. I guess it’ll be ~6-9 month wait and my trde in value will diminish.

It’s a tough call. First year of a new model refresh always has it’s pros and cons. I think sticking with a ‘23 is the “safe” route but if you’re okay with gambling on the refresh then I would say wait.

We also don’t know the inevitable price hike this new refresh will carry, another thing to consider.

Welp, my dumb*ss read the dates wrong. G45 is coming late next year. So i guess no big changes for MY24 coming late this year? That’s what my dealer confirmed- no changes for MY24.

If you pay attention to the auto industry as a whole, that’s still not a very long time for an engine architecture to be around.
