Transmission Modes?
Does anyone know if S1/S2/S3 always require the paddle shifters to change gears? In D1/D2/D3 it shifts automatically. I'm guessing the S settings are more aggressive than the D settings, but I could be wrong. Should I just be using D3 if I don't want to use the paddle shifters? Am I missing anything by not using S3 with everything in sport/sport plus?

S is manual mode. The only auto shifting is downshifting is to prevent engine stall. D is auto. In D3 it will aggressively downshift under braking so you get engine braking.
If you are in D and use the paddles it will temporarily go in manual mode but at the drive logic setting from the auto mode. So if you are in D2 and press the paddles you are effectively in S2. It will revert to D2 if you drive normal for a few seconds or if you hold the upshift paddle for a couple seconds. If instead you use the gear shifter to go manual (up/down/or to the right) it will enter whatever S mode you were last in and stay there. I have noticed an occasional glitch where moving the shifter right doesn't always enter auto mode. This seems to occasionally happen when I got to manual mode via an M button but it doesn't always happen. |
