This is why I find the current 5-Series is way inferior to the previous LCI!

Yesterday, I checked the configurator and tried to build the I5M60.
I currently have an F10 535 as one of my cars, and I need to replace it soon. I was very fine with many controversial BMW cars released before, but I can't help myself trying to accept the current 5 series for multiple reasons.

1- The major drawback is the design. In fact, it is not bad, but very subtle, dull, and uninspiring at best. The car lacks the aggressive and sporty character of the previous 5 Series or probably any high-end BMW car.

2- The performance. As a matter of fact, BMW killed the competition with its rivals in terms of performance during the last 5 years. All M cars used to be quicker than AMG and RS cars, but I think this is the end of the era. They released the XM to compete with the Cayenne Turbo S and Urus Perfomante, but it is way slower than these cars. Even the extremely overpriced Label Red is slower than these cars. Same story with the 7 Series. The Mercedes AMG S63 E Performance with 800hp doesn't have any competition from BMW. Even the most powerful M76i is slow compared to the previous generation. The current M760e does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. The old V12 M760 does 0-60 in 3.5! On the other hand, the current highest S class trim does 0-60 in 2.8 seconds!

This is my current complaint regarding the i5 M60. It is way slower than the AMG EQE. I really want to buy a high-performance i5 that is the best and quickest among its rivals, but it doesn't exist.

I was also surprised when I checked the 530i which is slower than the previous generation (0-6 in 5.9 seconds). Just imagine a basic Kia and Hyundai are now much quicker than the $70K BMW! So, why is BMW neglecting one of its best car features?

3- The car interior is basic in my opinion. I never bought a car with a dark interior, but when I tried to specs the i5 with white leather, I found out that color comes for the seats and a small part of each door. It doesn't cover the ceiling, the gloves compartments, the dash, or even the full door.

4- No Alcantara headliner.
5- No massage seats.
6- The back seat cup holder is now designed in a very cheap way inside the hands rest. Just like in an Elantra or Corolla.
7- No back seat airplane pockets like in all previous 5 series cars.
8- The speed limit for a performance-oriented i5 M50 is only 130 Mph. Just why?.

I started to think of getting another EV like Model S or EQE (I know it is ugly), or waiting for the RS6 E-Tron.

I'm afraid the next disappointment is gonna be the M5. It will use the same horrible powertrain of the XM with a detuned version of only 718hp, but gain lots of weight from that hybrid battery.

First-world problems.
Most of us would bemoan the loss of the manual transmission (I know; that was years ago!).

Comparison XM to Urus Performance is missed at best. Totally different price bracket. Bmw used to be faster than almost anything for the money, and for the most part it seems like it still is. You said you were fine with awkward design but now since you want to actually purchase one you’re not? Design of the new BMW’s is atrocious for the most part so as much as we bitch about it all we can do is to vote with our wallets and buy something else. I wouldn’t choose any of my cars based on that something else is .2 seconds quicker than the one I like but that is just me. More often than not some options are not available with introduction of new models. Good luck with whatever decision you’ll make.

Comparing anything German to a Lamborghini is a missed boat. They aren’t the same buyers. I don’t know of anyone who cross-shops a Urus with a Cayenne (not even a Turbo GT). The XM as expensive as it is….is still like $100k less than a Urus.

all good things come to an end

i have locked in a 2021 M340i and 2021 M550i because of the end of good things

never had a BMW, now have 2, don't plan to have any more.

i tested a Skoda Enyaq EV RWD and that slow thing can drift! just imagine every EV in the future doing BMW things and BMW trying to be a GMC Tesla

I'm a fan of Mercedes but even I can't get behind what they were thinking with the design of their EQE and EQS. Awful stuff.

So am i. I find it awkward that carmaker of such a caliber came up with something like that. Looks is subjective but I find ALL electric vehicles with current drivetrain technology inferior to ICE vehicle. And for many reasons. I have no idea what would have to happen for me to drop six figures to become beta tester.

Let’s be honest…..ALL electric cars look like shit. The Taycan is the best looking by far overall but even that is the worst looking Porsche.

Actually IMO the only really good looking electric car is the Mini Cooper S because they didn’t change it from the original Cooper design.

Saddest true statement I'm likely to read today. The end of a era.

And no sun roof at least not opening one. Can’t imagine some pays extra for fixed glass on the top.

US-spec comes with an opening sunroof. Fixed, panoramic glass is optional.

Re alacamtara headlining, that wasn’t available for the first 6 months of the g30. I had to wait 6 months to be able to order that
So it might come later potentially

Msport models have for at least 20 years or maybe more come with dark roof lining

I think the 7 series used to allow different colour Alcantara roof linings in the past possibly via the individual program

Of all the stats that I see regarding vehicles of any kind, the most amusing one is about top speeds and 0-60 times. I have owned most kind of vehicles between a Camry Hybrid and a Corvette C7 and a Boxster. I could take the C7 to 150 and I have taken the Boxster to 125. Given that everywhere in the US there are speed limits and the cops are very interested in handing out tickets like Halloween candy, the chances of using any of those capabilities is very little unless you are taking the vehicle to a track, which most people do not have the opportunity or need to. The three speeding tickets that I have had over the past 20 years, two were in a Toyota Avalon Hybrid and the other was in the C7. The speed was between 55 and 75 mph. It is all a matter of where you get caught! Maybe I am getting older and these things do not matter much to me anymore.

Could not agree more, I use to live in Germany, and after coming back to the US, speed is completely pointless. And also I don’t need a ticket! I am more concerned with features and how the car handles.
