Door seal on the inside makes cracking noise

Hello all,

Has anyone with the new 2023 x1 hear cracking sounds coming from the door seal driver and passenger side. It's right by me left ear? I've taken an apt with bmw to fix it.

It's just the rubber being sticky. you can apply krytox or some other lubricant to them, or rather have the dealership do it obv. because it's a new car and you shouldn't have to.

Mine has just begun to do this also, only on the driver's side. Annoying.

In the same boat, and was about to raise the issue on this forum. Was not sure if this is only me or so. But now I can see a pattern and that I am not alone. Quite strange to observe this in premium segment. When road is bad and uneven, there is an annoying cracking noise from passenger door, somewhere mid height. For drivers door noise is less but still noticeable and it is in the upper part somewhere where tweeter is.
I am about 2000km to 1st service, so will combine this.
Let's report here ideas, details, resolution and how dealer approaches the issue.

Thanks in advance all!

The dealer simply put some lube on the door seal which did not help at all. I've managed to fix the issue myself. The reason why the door seals are making cracking noise is because there is not enough pressure between the door and the seal. So I just bought a velcro tape and added the soft portion of the velcro tape on the door. That created just enough pressure for the seal to be pressed down and to not move. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it here. Sorry for the wait I didn't get notified about your replies.

it's not even funny. velcro tape in a premium car. it could be in a 1980 soviet car, but here.... It's the little things that show how meticulous the designers were

So here I’ve attached 3 images showing where I’ve put the Velcro tapes. I’ve done this on the passenger side as well. The doors seals no longer make any noise.

So..., as promised, with 1st service I addressed the issue with the dealer and they failed to hear anything after 2 test rides performed in the dealership, which is not surprising to me because I was sure somehow they will not put efforts into such kind of things. I said that road should be uneven to get it reproduced but seems they did not wanted to follow road advice or hear the noise. With getting back home from the dealership the issue is there. Fortunately they said 1y from purchase date such issues could be addressed and fixed for free, so I need to understands how approach now.

nevertheless, any other ideas on how to fix this maybe with another type of spray or sealant? Velcro tape is indeed hardcore approach.

I’ve fixed squeaks in the past with lithium grease, but will require reapplying after some time. Used to own volkwagens before moving to BMW, so squeaking was a common thing lol.

Do you reproduce it now in your X1? Or never applied and never reproduced in X1?

The only noise I get in my X1 is one of the dash panels makes a cracking noise (though nothing is actually cracking), more like a panel snapping into place. It only happens when the car has been sitting in the sun for hours and then I turn the AC on. And even then it’s occasional. Seems likely it’s one of the dash trim pieces or the display housing. Other than that, no noises.

Thanks, same happens on my side as well additionally to noise from the passenger door mainly which is likely door seal as mentioned above.

THE EXACT SAME LOCATION ON MINE MAKES A RATTLING/CREAKING NOISE!!!

IF I PRESS THE DOOR SEAL AT THAT LOCATION WHILE IT’S MAKING NOISE, THE NOISE STOPS. 🤯

I don’t know if this is the same or not but when I drive my car in the rain. Most specifically if my car was sitting in the rain then I drive it. If I crack a window I hear a popping crackling sound like there is a place where air and/or water is pushing through a seal. It’s pretty rare because I don’t open my window often when it’s raining and also it barley rains in the northeast US during summer anymore.

The only thing is I have no clue where it’s coming from.

I’m gonna take a video next time. It’s very loud and noticeable.

Yep! Same for me. Mostly on driver side. It’s by the top portion of the door. At first I thought it was the door seal because pressing it helped stop the noise. But then I realised it’s coming from the plastic part by the “roof” of the door. It’s very annoying! Especially in the iX1 as it’s super quiet in the cabin. Will get it checked with BMW at some point

Yes! Same here. Only on the driver’s side, the plastic portion in the top left corner. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one.

I have rattling/cracking sound from the pillar B driver side as well. Holding it with hand temporarily ends it, so not sure if related to the seals at all.

I also have some resonance sound coming from near the front passenger seat, somewhere above the gloves compartment. And very recently from around the right backseat/door as well.
