BMW OS8.5

Is OS 8.5 still coming out starting in August?

I have a M60 for week 31, just wondering if I will get it or not. I have read several threads saying it’s coming but nothing definitive.

Anyone have the latest?

I read that iDrive 8.5 would start shipping from the factory starting in July, and would be available for update starting in August. Unless something has changed, you should be getting it.

Idrive 8.5 will start being put into vehicles at the factory starting with August production. While there were a few sources saying that the OTA update would be available in July that would be unusual. BMW usually likes to have the version be out in the field for awhile poor to releasing it as an OTA. My guess is that it will be the End of September/October before we see anything.

Either case, you will be able to OTA update your iDrive to 8.5 even if comes with iDrive 8 as this update release is verified and confirmed by BMW for 24 X5/X6 models.

I'm wondering with all of these 50e's in the shop if they might try to upgrade them to 8.5 in hopes that it might help with some of the issues.

I would say it is unlikely unless things drag on into August and then they may upgrade to have it done. Seems like it is a physical part that is causing the issue.

Just FYI there's reports of cars in Germany getting updated to 8.5 (by the dealer, not OTA) already. Although I'm not 100% it's not some other update and they were mistaking it for 8.5.

Edit: Just confirmed it wasn't 8.5 but some other update. My apologies.

I can tell you that both my 50e and XM were in the shop last weeks and the dealer wasn’t allowed to update to the last iLevel. My XM is running 23–03-567 and the 50e is running 23-03-565.

Even if both cars were having faults needing an upgraded version, the elusive 23-07-527 (or 23-07-523 before) remain forbidden at the moment by BMW headquarters.

Not related to 8.5 (the topic of the OP), but in support of what you are saying the following was posted in a thread in the software sub-forum... 7/2023.23 Software Update

New SIB B 65 20 23 says that workshop repairs with software updates may be changed (upgraded) to iDrive 8.5--applies to F95/96, G05-G07, G70 with the correct head unit.

We have a few vehicles that were noted to be updated to 8.5 (mostly the iX) at the processing center

Interesting; I wonder if this means they will start rolling out 8.5 from the factory starting now.

Think it's for August production and then a planned rollout over the air in September

There is now an open technical campaign to update vehicles to 8.5. I don't know the procedure for updating them but they may update those already in the shop. Folks may be able to call the dealer and have them update others, hopefully we will find out more details.

Beautiful! I have a service appointment tomorrow and just texted the service director and he said they would do the update tomorrow. Thank you so much for the screenshot otherwise they will easily say "we don't see anything". Will report back on how it goes

Excellent, let us know how it turns out and how you like 8.5.

8.0 from the factory as it is not scheduled to install 8.5 until August. Your dealer will likely update it to to 8.5 during PDI, if not ask them to do so.

I just had the x7 in for service on Tuesday, they didn't mention anything. Too bad, not sure it's worth making a special trip.

It may have come out after you had it checked in. When was you X7 built?

When I enter my VIN I see this number. My dealer said they will update to 8.5 when they get the car. The 50e is currently in Bremerhaven awaiting shipment to Zeebrugge.

I had my '24 X5M in for its break-in service yesterday. The technical campaign was listed on the work order as an open recall, but apparently the software isn't available to the dealer yet, so nothing got installed. They thought it would be mid-late August before they had software and were allowed to install it.

Will be interested to see what experience others have!
