More (my) photos of the new G60 i5/5 from the BMW Welt
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com https://wordpress.com/post/carsnkopi.wordpress.com/2193 Since I was in Munich for BMW Group’s Preview event, it made total sense to pop by the Welt to check out what might be lurking around their compound and while I was rather saddened to not see the beautiful Z4 Touring, something I was really hoping for, consolation prize was being one of the first few people from my side of the earth to lay eyes on their brand new 5 (and i5). Unfortunately, on the day of my visit, the Welt was closed off for another event but this lone 5 was parked up outside, albeit in a cordoned-off area. No badging on the rear but with the rear roundel surrounded by chrome instead of blue, it’s not an i5 but a “normal” 5 with the M-Sport exterior. This car REALLY needs the M-Sport aesthetics because I saw one without and the bold styling really didn’t work in base-spec trim. Since I was in the neighbourhood, I decided to pop into the museum. When I came out, a couple of other cars had lined up next to the brand-new 5er for an interesting size comparison. I did of course return to the Welt the next day (since it opens super early in the morning) just to see what I might find before my flight back. And if you were wondering how a base-model 5 might look like (or not). I’m not feeling it either. Soon after, someone parked up an i5 outside fully decked out with M-Performance parts. I think another forummer caught this car inside the Welt, this must have been just before they shifted it in. Personally, I think the M-Sport car earlier gives the best balance in terms of aesthetics. Still looks buggy from some high-speed autobahn runs. And here are some detailed shots of the M-Performance items, So, what do you think? |

Eh, sorry, I still don’t like it. And the stripes on the side? Yuck.
Maybe when I see it in person. Maybe. But looking more and more like I’m buying my M550 when the lease is up in October (also driven by the absurd lease rates driven by high interest rates.) |

I think the "base" model you referred to is still an M-sport version but with (very) basic wheels :-)
But great pics and thread. Thanks for posting! I really like the M performance wheels. |

Thanks for posting the pictures. Maybe it’s just the angle and the Mini between them, but the G60 looks massive compared to the 5er touring. Can you comment on this seeing them in person?

My heart sank when I saw that picture of the base model. I'm anxious to see other pics with a different angle, color trim level etc.

Yeh base model not great. I think this may be deliberate to encourage you to load up on the profitable options. I don’t think this is anything new by bmw to be honest
Will be out in Munich in September for the motor show and a visit to the welt so hope to see it in the metal I already have my opinion on it but seeing in the metal will seal the deal. |

That’s a better angle for sure. Thanks for sharing. G60 as we know is bigger than G30, but the light color emphasizes that vs the dark color G31.
I really want to like this G60 but the G30 is just so elegant in comparison, even pre-LCI that I have. Can’t wait to see it in the metal.

The striping isn't my taste, and if I were to put a decal of any sort on that white car it would be on the rocker cover so it's not hiding so much. Other than that it looks awesome. I agree the G60 looks a bit awkward in base trim, but that's been true of most BMWs since as long as I can remember.

OP, thanks for sharing. Looks like a fun trip.
Question: would you buy this now that you have seen it in metal and it’s full size and proportions? What’s your take?

I hate the rear in total. It's like they copied Benz, and then gave up in the middle of the process. The front I can get used to. I'm sure it will grow on me tho.

The Msport model out side would really look more appealing in an M560 version with 4 exhaust tips under the rear. I’m just saying, if they were to make a M560 version….
