AC cools only while driving
Hello guys,, The AC on my 2011 328 cools only while driving,, when I stop it stops cooling.. if am parked, and I rev the engine, it start cooling.. I visually look at the cooling fan while I had someone else turn on the car, and the fan hesitates to spin when turning on my car,, it does spin but first it does a mild back and forth movement before it starts spinning..
Can someone tell me if this means anything,? does it sounds like a bad fan or, maybe a bad control module, or could it be something else.? I refilled the Freon and checked for leaks and all is ok there. Please advise.. Thank you. Leo |

First thing i would do is see if your condenser unit is clogged up with crud on it. Second i would look at the pressures of both the high and low pressure side of the A/C to see if your pump and valve assemblies are working properly. Third you might have moisture in your ac unit that would drop its capability down. Also if i were to take it to a shop i would have them do an evac and recharge as a preventative measure because no a/c system is sealed perfectly there will always be some leakage. (just a tiny bit)

It would be best to scan codes and observe AC system data (IHKA module), so you are not guessing and spending time and money needlessly.
Since it sounds like it's engine-speed dependent, I would check your accessory belt to see if it's slipping. It may not be spinning the compressor pulley fast enough at idle due to slippage, so the compressor doesn't operate correctly. Is the belt in good condition? Have you had oil filter housing gasket changed yet? |
