2024 x7 m60i vs 40i loaner
I picked up my 2024 x7 m60i this month and love it. When I was inspecting it, I noticed a nick in the paint, which we agreed they would fix. Since that is now happening a few weeks later, I have a basic 2024 x7 40i loaner. I thought it could be helpful to briefly outline a few of the noticeable differences between my fully loaded m60i and the loaner – understanding there is a substantial price difference.
The executive package and leather make a noticeable difference in the quality of the interior. The loaner is certainly a nice car, but the sensafin is not as soft and the seats overall just don’t feel as good. I do like the sensafin seat design though. They do not feel as supportive as the leather seats, but this could be adjustment-related or climate package-related since I have the ventilated seats. The second row bench in the loaner makes the car feel much more crowded and the sight-lines out the back window feel more obstructed. That said, the lighter interior headliner on the loaner does feel brighter. I love the sky lounge, but it does seem to darken the feel of my black headlined interior even more. I am happy with the captains chairs - with the wish there was slightly more room between the armrests (may remove) and a car seat anchor on the back of the seat (like the bench) instead of the floor. The four-wheel steering/DHP was one of the main reasons I went with the m60i, and the difference in turning radius and maneuverability is way more noticeable than I had expected. I am very glad that I followed my gut on this given I have a tight space in the back of my house and the parking garage at my office. 8 vs 8.5: I was the first customer at my dealer to have 8.5 and they loaded it before delivery. It is so much easier to use and it looks way better than the “card” layout of 8. I rarely have to go past the homescreen given the shortcut buttons on the bottom of the screen. On both cars, I wish the physical buttons on the center console had a better “click” since they are a little finicky where you have to push them relatively precisely for them to respond – a nitpick, but I preferred the feel of these more on my 2020 x3. On the loaner, I much prefer the wireless charging location and small storage next to it without the heated/cooled cup holders. It is easier to put the phone into it, and I appreciate the change storage next to it. I would choose that over the heated/cooled cup holders if I could. The m steering wheel feels so much better. The 40i is a pleasure to drive, and the power feels quite adequate. That said, the m60i is way more fun to drive and it sounds much better. It is a bit louder, but not in a bad way (although you can feel how it wants to go faster and holds a gear (whining) at times/ready for you to push down the accelerator). The m brakes are way more confidence inspiring. The standard ones feel safe but seem to struggle under the vehicles weight at times coming to a quick stop at a light. The Bowers & Wilkins sounds great. And importantly, looks so much better than the standard setup. All of this said, I am very happy to have stepped up to the larger engine and went with the fully loaded car. Let me know if you have any questions. |

Nice! Thanks for the info. I went with the 40i but got the M sport package and M performance with the upgraded exhaust etc. The price delta to the M60 was $17k + tax for my same build. We did every package and B&W.

Thank you far that review. I went with a loaded m50i vs a 40i. Cost me about 20k For the difference. Sometimes i wonder if I should have just got the 40i. But that makes me feel a little bettet.. “ when the price is forgotten…”

thanks for the detailed review.
curious how does the B&W look different during the day? I know they light up at night which is very cool been thinking about going without the executive package, as I read the massage function is pretty basic, the sky "lights" are pretty gimmicky, and don't get me started on how dumb cup warmers / coolers sounds. Good to hear things actually function better without it. Semi related but anyone know the exact difference between extended and full leather? on the configurator looks like there's some leather added to the door storage compartment. Any other differences for the back seats etc? |

i believe full leather adds: leather upper and lower dash, lower dash in seat color leather lower doors, black leather seatback, seat color I was able to option DHP on my 40i (first production allocations last year). if i had to replace my car today i would get the M60i just for that.

I agree with everything about this review, but all in all just shows the 40i is AWESOME with the correct packages. That's why I feel to happy that I got my 2020 when you could get everything on it, including night vision, ambient air, dhp, RES (things you can't even get with Alpina anymore). Love it.

it was a supply based deletion. it was avail for 10 weeks on the 2023, and for 5 days on the 2024. i believe its also what is constraining M60i production as its a standard feature.
since we are already into the 2024 MY it might not reappear till MY 2025 ( july-aug 2024 production) the ordering guides for MY2025 should be out june or so 2024. if it does come back i would pull the trigger immediately.

Ah so you got the extended instead of the full? To be clear the extended would also match the color on the seat back right? Assuming with a lower tier material

I went with extended, not full so that the kids were less likely to ruin it. It matches well and is still high quality.

The 2024 may have switched that to a black material. |

I test drove both. Finally, I went with m60i for a few reasons.
A. Ias - it does turning radius much tighter and changing lanes is very nimble. It feels lighter and more agile than my wife x5. B. By the time I loaded 40i to nearly the same as 60i it was less than 8k difference. There is no sales tax in OR although they charge you 1,000$ some tax. I figured what I saved in sales tax (usually 10%) paid for the difference in price C. Finally - I am approaching six decade of life. Always sacrificed so I could put kids through college debt free and make sure they were comfortable. I make decent money and so for once it was ok to splurge on me. I still feel guilt but it vanishes when I am driving the x7. |
