New member here

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I didn't see a topic for new member intros.

Mike from NE Ohio checking in. Recently traded our 2012 F10 for a 2020 X5. So far so good but all the new technology will take a bit to get sorted out. We drove an X3 but didn't like the ride due to the shorter wheelbase compared to our 535i. Found a decent deal on the X5 so here we are.

Car is primarily my wife's as I drive a '21 Ram and a couple of Harleys for daily use. She works from home 3 days a week and we managed a whole 33k miles in 6 years of ownership on Her previous car and that was taking it on vacations most of the time.

Figured I'd sign up and do some more reading and learning on this new to us platform.

welcome! This place tends to liven up as the media stirs the pot leading up to the next election, so stick around

You should also introduce yourself in your vehicle specific (G05) forum. There you can discuss everything about your X5. But come back here for some fun and games.

I was checking around for a generic welcome board and didn't see one so I thought I'd just post in the off topic forum.

I check in on a number of the forums: 3/4 series (just in case I win the lotto I may buy a G23 convertible ), the 5 series forum (general principles), the F8X M3 forum (used to own one), the G8X forum (my current BMW), the i4 and iX forums (keep up with the latest technology) and the G05/G06 forums (mainly because I find the X5 50e interesting) and I have an observation: The busiest forum of those I've listed, to my surprise, seems to be the X5/X6 forum. They are a very active group.

At the time of my post you hadn't posted there yet so I thought I'd make that suggestion. I see you have posted there since then.

You know, I have never once played the lotto. Never been much of a gambler, though I do believe in luck. Go figure. lol

Actually me neither, but my wife occasionally buys a ticket at the grocery store. The only lottery ticket I buy is the annual BMW Car Club of America raffle -- the odds are better and the proceeds go to a good cause.

Sorry for the thread hijack, ohiobellboy.

All good. Wouldn't be a forum without some kind of happening.

Y'all have been around here long enough to know that BP has closed the Politics & Religion forum section, and any political posts are grounds for a trip to banned camp.

I suggest reading the "Why the Politics & Religion section has been removed" sticky post at the top of the Off Topic section, and editing your post to remove the obvious political content that I obscured in my quote of your post above.

As a friendly reminder to everyone, the administrators here can just as easily shut down the entire OT section like they did the Politics & Religion section on a whim if they get tired or overwhelmed with policing the content.....

the real question is always.. .what is true freedom of speech?

like the us amendment definition... which is ironically like most countries in the world (just not as well advertised) sans a few dictatorial regimes... or like we can truly say anything as long as it doesn't harm anyone?

Option 1 isn't very special... Option 2 is a baseline of what true freedom of speech should be.

Was gonna say the same. It's a shame but a case of the few ruining it for the many.

True but - ppl still get lively - passionate - insane, whatever you want to call it, as the media stirs us up. I’d love to think it won’t happen but it’s gonna, wait and see. Yes politics specifically won’t get posted about but ppl still will be stirred up. Especially since we’ve replaced God with celebrities & politicians. Just my observation. Since we are designed to worship, you do the math.

BP-OT does not have a BACON thread...yet!

I used to be a member of another forum that actually had a thread dedicated to bacon pictures like this:

I'd recommend one-hand CPR training and AED devices for anyone who eats that much bacon in one sitting.....
