I Sweeps installed followed by a Emergency Brake failure

I only have 400 miles on my car, breaking it in. I already was fed up with the brake dust on the M4, so installed I Sweeps on the front and rear. The rear is incredibly easy as you don't even have to remove the caliper to install them. After I installed though and took it for a ride I immediately got an emergency brake warning not functional. I took it to the dealership because I was in the area. Of course, they tried to blame the aftermarket brake pads....of course right. They said a parking brake actuator had failed and needed to be replaced. The shop foreman wasn't there so they said will call you today with a verdict if it will be warrantied.

I came home and did some research first off I found my Autel reader doesn't work with the 24 BMW, so I tried a reset on the parking brake I read about on the internet. I put my foot on the brake and then activated the parking brake, low and behold it worked. Codes are gone. How do you go from an actuator not working to fixed? Very strange thing, not sure what caused it either because I never touched the emergency brake or the actuator.

So you didn't retract the parking brake when replacing the rear pads? That's what caused the issue, I replaced my pads a month ago and had no issues when I used bimmerlink to retract the parking brake.
But not sure why they said the part failed though, maybe they were low in sales and needed some extra money.

Then they never called me back today said it was a liability issue to reset systems?? I was like the liability is letting somebody drive off with a non functioning emergency brake rather than resetting it.

They said ok if it comes back let us know...nice follow up.

On the retracting brakes before install topic, what is everyone using as far as a diagnostic tool that includes that functionality as a DIYer?

Bimmerlink?

Thanks for posting this!!!
Does one have a guide on the procedure to replace the pads as DYI? I want to do this with iSweeps as well but would be nice to just know the steps ahead to avoid issue.

You need to put the car into service mode in the rear brakes it retracts the pistons.

With my brake pad swap at about 1,000 miles, I didn't need to do this.

Its pretty self explanatory, open the app and go down to parking brake and activate it, then when you're done deactivate it.
